It's a standard 3 bed semi with a ground floor, 1st floor and a loft (not living space). I am assuming the installation of the 3 alarms would not be notifiable as the circuit is pre existing and the protective device is not changing?
So, I have been asked to certificate them for building control. As I understand it, to install these brk 700 series alarms is deemed as non notifiable. And something a home owner can do. What they can't do is issue a certificate for them?
Apologies if this is a silly question and thanks for...
Hi all,
I have been asked to issue a certificate for 2 smoke alarms and a heat alarm that are connected via wireless bases (brk 700 series) which have already been installed by the client.
I have never done this before but need to do so for building control as doors have been removed, hence...
Hi vortigern,
Thanks for the reply, yes they were fine till I changed the bulb. All the lights are downlights in the main house. So no ceiling rose, would they just be wired from a junction box at one of the existing lights and why would it suddenly stop when changing a bulb?
Thanks.
Hi boys and girls,
Hoping you can advise me utilising some of your experience!
I have a 6a mcb on a circuit that is rcd protected feeding the ground floor lights along with lighting in an extension. Upon changing a bulb (within the extension) there was a flash and the mcb tripped. It was...

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help with the below and excuse my novices!!!!
I have 8 Parathom LED spot 111 50 advanced lamps wired in series, they are each 8.5w and are replacing existing halogens. I am struggling to find a driver that is able to run them all and have spoken to Osram who were no...
Hi all,
So, I or should I say we were having a debate and I am hoping someone with more experience can clarify.
If installing a garage consumer unit using an existing swa 2 core swa cable with the steel reinforcement being used as the earth and already wired to a 30 am mcb at the db would...
Tele,
Am I right in thinking you have to drill a whole for every clip, does this not become very time consuming, also do you ever find they don't grip the clip nail? I have heard about these and know they are supposed to be good but never used them.
Cheers
Hi all,
The title says it all really, I am just wondering what method those of you with more experience use to surface mount cable to hard breeze block, the kind where your nails either bend of just fly off lol??????
In my case, I need to mount cable to an unplastered garage (internally) made...
Wirepuller,
Your right, your initial post was derogatory and unhelpful lol, but guess you have redeemed yourself lol
But seriously thank you. I would not do something I hadnt clarification over and am doing my best to learn as much as I can in a self taught way. I'm 36 and trying to change...
Pete,
At present the SWA is being fed from a ring main, located in the main houses utility room and at present just taped up "to make safe" in the garage. What I need to do is add a garage CU in the garage incorporating RCD protection from this taped up SWA cable then I need to add 2x double...
Pete,
Thanks for taking the time helping me out!
There is not RCD protection at the CU and I was going to add RCD protection but was thinking where the SWA terminates within the garage. I still dont understand this 6amp breaker thing though lol
Andy,
I am registered as a domestic electrician with the NICEIC but am learning everything by reading and researching myself. I have completed my 17th edition, domestic installers course and building regs but am fully aware I don't have the experience or qualifications of more experienced...
Andy,
Thats why I asked the question, as I want to understand the full methodology behind their recommendation. I am pretty sure it is a simple answer and probably something I am just overlooking.
