@lmike19 ,
I think this is where some of us might be struggling... a diagram or clearer explanation of the existing arrangements may help clarify things.
The point is that people come here for advice. It's important that the advice we give them is accurate. You made a statement implying that a low voltage (230v) fan should not be in zone 1. This is factually incorrect and is thus duff advice that could cause complications for the OP.
With...
I'd like you to show me the regulations where it states a 230/240 volt fan cannot be installed in Zone 1.
Ventilation equipment are one of the few items that are explicitly listed as being allowed in zone 1 (701.55 Current-using Equipment), with the caveat that they are suitable for...
It doesn't look like it's IP rated, so was it actually mounted in the junction box in such a way so as to be accessible, and operable by the user?
If not, I would establish whether it's a simple push to make switch... if it is and it was not installed in a way to allow the user to operate it, I...
Just bumping this as we've just received another report for the message.
If you don't want to receive the messages from @Dan and @Lou , I believe you can turn them off...

I would say, based on the apparent lack of thermal damage on the line conductors (apart from where they've been toasted by the neutrals) it's down to a bad joint at the chock block they used on the neutral.
Edit:- I'd have a look at other points on the cable... if there's no signs of thermal...
Hi all,
If you receive a message from @Dan or @Lou , it's most likely it's going to be a little bit of marketing... either from them directly (about their other projects or say a Merry Christmas or Happy New Year message) or providing information about forum sponsors and events they may be...
I would argue that the plumber is not correct, that we are liable for the failure to notify and not the home owner.
I've looked into this and having read the approved document a few times, unless I'm much mistaken, the wording implies that the "persons intending to carry out the works" are...
If you're intrigued by the topic, check out (I think this is correct) the Gosforth Handyman on YouTube... he's been filming a renovation which included constructing a sound proof room for a studio in the garden and he installed a sand filled plasterboard for sound deadening... it was very effective.
I suspect it is indeed for sound deadening.
As for the deleting a post... you'll need to report the post/thread asking for it to be deleted. One of the staff will deal with it.
I don't have the BBB yet, but if this is what the regs actually say...
"Regulation 421.1.7 now states:
Arc fault detection devices (AFDD) conforming to
BS EN 62606 shall be provided for single-phase
AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets with a rated
current not exceeding 32 A in:
•...
I would say absolutely 100%, if you don't install AFDDs where they are required it's a departure and as I've outlined above, the regulations and the definition of "recommended" mean they are required in all domestic settings.
But that's just my interpretation, I'd be more than happy to be...
I would suggest it's the manufacturers sitting on the various committees that are driving things these days. Feels like things are changing just to sell more gear. I've got a situation at the moment where if I comply fully with the regs, a consumer unit that would cost £240 (this is for a BG...
I would be very careful with the word 'recommended' right now... my understanding is that amendment 2 introduces a handy definition which implies "recommended" = "should". This has come to my attention specifically in relation to the installation of arc fault detection devices, but it's not...
Hi Atticus,
Unfortunately my non-licensed works card has lapsed... I don't do enough of it to warrant it... and well... south London... long way from my patch :)
Thanks for the offer though.
