Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

I am assuming his company, we did not even know he worked for a company until the invoice.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Thank you for the advise James. To be honest considering we originally asked him to only do a small job, change lights and socket covers, even 10 hours seems like is a lot, however I am definitely not an expert here.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

He did include +20% VAT to the bill, the invoice has the company name and account details.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Can I ask something from everyone, given the additional works he claims to have completed without our knowledge or consent (like removing wiring and changing smoke alarms) without providing full details, and involving other people in our flat without our knowledge, is this even legal? Of course...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

No not rented, we bought the flat and were refurbishing it.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

To be honest I agree it is possible that there were problems with the wiring, which means further work was needed. However I believe in those cases it is reasonable for him to contact us about it and say that additional work is needed, as opposed to messing with the wiring without our permission...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

The electrician is not solo, from what I understand he works for a company which is NICEIC Approved. We contacted him directly, and I do not know where the other 3 people came from, nor that there was anyone else involved until the invoice.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

We did not have a contract, I met him through a friend of mine, we talked over the job verbally when he visited the flat and I later follows up by message with the scope of the works, which he confirmed. Besides that there was no contract or other documents signed.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

100% sure, we initially talked over the job verbally, and then I followed up with a written message confirming the works, which he confirmed too.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Actually no, without telling us apparently 3 more people were involved and "helped" him, for which he is also charging a management fee. Although we never explicitly agreed he would work alone, I believed it is reasonable that this is a 1 person job.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Aside from what we ACTUALLY asked him to do, he apparently "investigated" a bunch of things, cancelled supplies and sockets, tried and failed to install LEDs, checked lights and some circuits, Disconnected the supply cable going to Transformers 12V output, installed a new smoke alarm and etc (a...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

If not NICEIC, what would be the best way to escalate this without going to court?

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

I see, in which case we will do our best to resolve this peacefully, with all the evidence, and if refuses to be reasonable we should reach out to NICEIC. Thank you for the advice.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

The electrician is NICEIC approved, so not a random person. Nor he did actually conduct an EICR.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

The electrician was recommended by a friend, and the electrician did not a give a quote before starting. Here I made a naive mistake of not being more forceful with requesting a quote. However we confirmed the exact scope of works needed in writing.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

I am not sure what the rate would be for the additional works he claimed to have done is, however I think it is reasonable to assume that changing socket covers and lights is no where near being a £2,000 job.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Hello LukeD, thank you for the advice. On top of what you suggested we are thinking of consulting different electricians to see what the true reasonable rate for the works we requested is. As you said, he did not inform us of any of the additional works, nor did we agree to them. My only concern...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Good afternoon everyone, I am Alex and I'm new here. I am posting this to ask for advice with how I should approach this situation. We called in an electrician, and as confirmed in writing by messages, the original request was to change the socket covers and change lightbulbs through the flat...
