    Does it really need a competent electrician to be able to tell if a particular MCB will physically fit onto a DIN rail populated with --- other type(s)?? As for stipulating that they all have to be of the same make/brand/manufacturer, I am sorry that is just b$$locks.

    True, but it only means the person completing it is conversant with the regulations. as we all know the exam is just about being able to find things in a book, it does not mean the person doing so can use that information correctly in a real life situation.     That's a good point that is Tel! Quite a bit of notifiable work I do is for a builder who will invariably have building control already involved, and I was going to go down the same route, especially if I can't be arsed with all this 18th rubbish come next renewal date.

    2% you reckon it's that high? For me this stupid change just shows how out of touch the people who dream up these things are, that they actually think that ANYONE tests their RCD's. Come on lets be honest, how many of you lot test yours regularly??

    I don't understand your argument here to be honest. You have got to gland the SWA to something have you not?? So just earth it at that point. I often use a Wiska box on the outside wall, not forgetting the danger 230V label :)

    Is it not just common sense that it should be earthed at the supply end? What if it got severed completely and then re-energised, the armour would not be earthed. Mind you round here there is loads of it not earthed at all, seems to be a bit of a blind spot with a lot of contractors.
