Extending tails - SWA or Hi Tuff ?

I would use swa, especially if any part of the route could require rcd protection with hi tuff.

Sanity check on plan for CU replacement (MCB to RCBO AFDD)

The price of this to buy without labour is going to be eye watering. There is currently no requirement to have afdd protection for circuits in your house, it is only a recommendation for socket circuits, but not mandatory.

UK Is an SPD required for a loft conversion?

I’ve never seen one activated. After some sites I’ve seen recently that have suffered from lighting strikes I’m starting to wonder how useful some of them are.

Electricians on building sites. What is is really like?

It won’t happen there are a lot of people with very little or basic skill hiding on building sites bending conduit with no idea of how to do anything else. It’s the fear of the unknown, most of us have it but an easy maintenance job certainly sounds preferable

Electricians on building sites. What is is really like?

8-4.30, cold in winter, full of some of the best characters and biggest morons I’ve ever ever met. People rarely get kicked off site as in my experience they are generally so many people stealing a living that kicking them off could leave the site with no staff. Thoroughly enjoyed site work...

UK Is an SPD required for a loft conversion?

Out of interest, has anyone ever had to replaced an spd because of a surge or seen one that’s done its job?

Ethernet and Power cable to be run underground

Why say that? Both insulation rated to the highest voltage present

Ethernet and Power cable to be run underground

Swa power and swa data alongside each other, no issues.

    Ev charger rccb fault

Sounds like they aren’t up to the task, although from the cable sizing id guess these are pretty small chargers. What size are they?

    Rats and tripping MCB

I’m confused, when you say IR on line do you mean IR line to neutral or line to earth? 3Mohms wouldn’t be enough to trip an mcb.

    Rats and tripping MCB

L-N shirt would trip mcb, not rcd. MCBs are for overload AND short circuit protection…

Borrowed neutral on split load board

Have you tested the current earth leakage and/or ramp tested the rcd?

    Solutions for LED inrush current

You’ll need to check you can still meet zs requirements for ads when changing from a b type to c type.

Borrowed neutral on split load board

Have you got an earth leakage tester? You could clamp it and see what leakage is at any given time and ramp test the rcd to see what it is actually tripping at. You could find that it’s close to its limit and turning on a light in that lighting circuit is pushing it over the edge.

    NVQ 2357-99, Job write ups

It’s not really. Just write about what you’re doing in the pictures and how you do it. Include all details with glands etc, it’s basically just talking about what you do on a daily basis. Don’t panic, it’s actually very simple.

    electrical condition report

Some of the points should have been picked up by previous people doing the testing. Sounds like this is a thorough report. Not everything is mandatory to be done, but plenty of it is.

Electrician to connect tails after isolator fitted (EDF)

Always worth remembering that meter fitters are untrained and have almost zero electrical knowledge. They go by what their job sheet and tick box exercise says, connecting a cable could cause a blind panic and lead to 6 months off with stress for them.
