    Unsatisfactory EICR??

On the basis of the photo of that CU I cannot believe there aren't more observations listed, if I got that EICR as a buyer I would be sending my own electrician around. I normally get instructed by the buyer not the seller!

What Cert got fitting main switch

You cannot supply a certificate as it is not within your remit, this is clearly the energy suppliers responsibility as the fuse has to be pulled to do it safely, get the supplier to do it.

    Extractor Fan not working

There will be a permanent live, switched live and neutral, if you do not have test equipment it is near impossible to tell which is which, especially if they have been disconnected at the ceiling rose. This is an hours work for an electrician, get one in would be my advice. Ask for a local...

Rewiring a 2 bed house to be rented out - SPD required?

I use SBS boards which are based on LiVE components, adding an SPD is £20+VAT, would cost the customer more for me to do the calculation, a bit of a no brainer really.

Rewiring a 2 bed house to be rented out - SPD required?

Mine cost me £20 +VAT, I recommend and fit them now unless someone wants to save £24 and if so I get them to e mail stating that they do not wish to fit a surge protection device. No one has yet.

New consumer unit, builder says upgrade supply

I have a ten year old who could tell you what is wrong with that CU at a glance! It is more an issue than it 'needs a gland', if someone had undertaken that work for me they would never work for me again. If they are that sloppy at the board what is the rest of the installation like?

The majority of faulty connections (bordering on fires) I have discovered have been where connections have just not been tightened at all , nothing to do with torque just been forgotten! I do have two torque drivers though, one I won the other I keep breaking the blades for (but that has been...

Need Advice - New Kitchen Rewire

Without sounding negative how are you going to test all of this? It's all very well putting cables into sockets and clipping them to the wall but if you aren't going to test it properly and actually understand the results of the tests getting LABC to sign it off won't mean a thing. Also an...
