Anyone watched the TV documentary tonight about Heat Pumps and electricity supplies in general?

At getting on for 20k a pop, I'd like to know where is the market going to be for a massive bunch of half trained lackies to play havoc.

    Wholesaler prices lately.

Shame, really fallen down from the elite 20th century standards. The downward trend, I suppose. Many top manufacturers of the past are turning out rubbish in comparison. Like the trade in general.

    Opening up holes in joist

After all this lot mate, I'd be reaching for the wood saw, hammer and chisel for notching :)

    Opening up holes in joist

Can't see any problem with just drilling a larger hole next to the half inch one? Besides, how easy is it to remove and rewire the 2.5?

SWA and separate conductor as CPC

Me neither for single phase, as a rule....... but I regularly use 4core swa for TP+N, if it measures up.

SWA and separate conductor as CPC

All it's doing is upping the earth conductor size and as a result reducing the R1+R2 value and thus Zs. The earths will be connected together at both ends anyway.

    Dealings with NEICIC..?

Whilst upgrades and changes are always going to occur, there's no doubt that this is another reason for money making.... paid for, as a rule, by those like us who keep the trade going.

    Dealings with NEICIC..?

Supposedly run by a charity. How long now since Damien S had his run in with the wicked witch?

    Dealings with NEICIC..?

So how are you going to stop DIY work? It's always been there, it's a fact. You're going to shut all the sheds down, eh? 'Competent' is important but maybe NOT in the trade. If someone isn't competent they shouldn't do the job.......but they do......no shock, no fire, so who's...

    Dealings with NEICIC..?

I agree with a great deal of what you're saying. In the domestic game it's become a 'cover up' for inadequacies in the trade as well as a cash cow. Trouble is, it's becoming more and more apparent in the commercial and industrial fields. But..before all the Part P/Cash cow days, the NICEIC was...

    Dealings with NEICIC..?

I don't know about other countries, I just see the downward spiral created by the need for greed, here. I've been on about the crap on here since 2010, one of my main reasons for joining. How things change. The NIC has changed big time in the last 20 years, not least due to a certain E Clancy...

Kitchen rewire - old ring main - new radial

Without seeing it, who knows? Every job is different and when you plan for the new kitchen a suitably qualified electrician should be able to advise on site, in preparation for the installation. It is a well known fact, in the domestic trade, that some of the worst and most dangerous work is...

Exposing old mains cables, Is this safe???

With all that's occurred, especially being advised to do that excavating by a supply authority employee, I'd be demanding a meeting with their Health and Safety Officer/department. Something tells me that it might all get sorted out pretty pronto, as a result.......and as for paying that £2K...

Please tell me i'm not going mental and he's talking gibberish?

It's just a case of taking the supply to the fuse VIA the switch. Hence being able to isolate the fuse carrier unit before removal or input of the fuse.
