Being self employed and the coronavirus

Can't believe you are doubting me, I'm upset !! No seriously... 1585083677 Very good point BB. Thankfully that won't affect me personally.

Being self employed and the coronavirus

Thanks for the update BE. It would have been really really nice if the government actually clearly stated this a few days ago though. It's no wonder the scenes in London have been such as they are without clear clarification on help for self employed. I suspect a fair percentage of who went to...

Being self employed and the coronavirus

I just registered for Tesco to place an order rather than go physically to the shop. Can't get a delivery nor click and collect at all for at least three weeks by which point their calendar 'runs out'. Guess I will be making a 4am visit to the local Asda in the hope they are slightly restocked...

    UK X-Ray warning Light

Beware of the wording of the sign. It will likely have to be specific in the same way electrical warnings and notices have to be. The link below mentions the health and safety regulations 1996. See here: Danger X-Rays Do Not Enter When Red Light Is On Signs -...

I haven't stockpiled personally no Dave. My spending is very little also. Divorced two kids do the maths!!

Being self employed and the coronavirus

Fair enough. But it is that advice I am following. As I have been doing all along. I have two toilet rolls and half a loaf of bread in at the minute. I have been avoiding the shops for the very reason of allowing distance between myself and others. I figured it was better to allow things to...

Being self employed and the coronavirus

How is not working when necessary to feed myself, kids and pay bills not absolutely necessary... Your last sentence appears to me as a little dig at my behaviour Sintra. If it is then it is such a misplaced comment. Without knowing how I have been conducting myself whilst in the presence of...

    Unknown cable type...

Noticed this cable today, never seen it before. Searched web to no avail. It was similar in size to 2.5 T&E and was supplying a FCU. I don't need to know what it is as I was doing unrelated stuff there, just curious really. It was in a block of flats in the 'loft' near to a lot of the elevator...

    Fusebox RCBO trip / ramp

Yep, to be fair many have sung their praises. I hope you report back if there are any issues with the next couple of one's.

    Fusebox RCBO trip / ramp

I would say they are cheap for a reason. That being the manufacturing processes are not as good as they perhaps could be. Pay peanuts springs to mind. I stopped using BG for this very reason - too many icky RCD results. 18mA is on the low side but given it is 18mA per circuit then that should...

    Changing light switch faceplate, confused!??

I had a customer that did the same thing as this. The best bit about it was that he is a fully trained mechanical engineer. Darwin awards springs to mind...!

Hager Consumer Unit - Fire retardant grommets?

I do doubt that semi blind grommets will starve an internal fire of oxygen. There are plenty of little gaps around the MCBs etc that will allow air in quite easily - usually at one end. Not having a go or anything, just an observation..

Do we have to instal another meter

I would recommend getting an electrician round to have a look and discussion. Have read the entire thread twice and am still not clear as to what is going on and what needs doing. I recently installed a meter and lighting that will run off a tenants supply but will be paid for by the landlord...

    Non switched sockets

It can be! I know a flat sale that nearly fell through due to an iced up freezer! The owner, an old chap, didn't want to defrost it because he was worried about water leaking into the downstairs neighbours. The purchaser wouldn't buy it until it was done!! Oh, and the ceilings/floors were solid...

Didn't initially spot the bigger CU to the right. So someone actually got paid for that??? What a load of carp. Would love to see inside the CU if they did that too... Horror show I suspect..

    Nulling Test leads

Sorry this is not related to live loop testing but your post made me think about the 1700 series.. I hate the 1700s for the way they do not display negative values. The 1552 and. It's ilk were much better in that way and you could easily and confidently do simple maths to get end to end values...

    UK Adding another DB

Given the cost of adding new ccts and a sub board it would not be prohibitively more expensive to change the entire board instead. The gap looks a lot more than 50mm or so to me unless the photo is playing tricks on me! Wouldn't fancy changing it myself as does look tight to work in, but not...
