    Smart lighting garden system

How about Loxone ? Just wire each lighting circuit and pump back to a central place where you can install the PLCs. Phone app is free, you can add wireless motion sensors etc. Whatever system you choose most of the hubs need a ethernet connection back to the router.

    Problems upgrading ecs card.

I had the same issue when I applied for my first card last year. I completed my JIB apprenticeship in 2002. The JIB would not except my formal letter and certificate from when i completed my apprenticeship. I had to download this silly JIB409 form from their website then contact JTL and get...

Email from the CEO of Certsure (The company who own Stroma, NAPIT, ELECSA and NICEIC

I think people are losing faith in the schemes now. JIB were allowing NICEIC QS's gold cards based on having passed a number of inspections. They have announced that they will discontinue this on the 1st December 2019 https://www.niceic.com/contractor/for-contractors/goldcard We all know that...

    Spot the electrical crime

This is one of those things that annoys me... We all agree that you should earth metal back boxes... Like I said I came across the same issue in a new build and the customer was ready to complain but I stopped them in the end, only because of that regulation I posted earlier. I wanted to be 100%...

    Spot the electrical crime

Completely agree, its bad workmanship. I personally don't agree with that regulation. The only reason I found it was because I've previously come across the same issue in a new build and I had to double check the regulations before telling the customer to complain.

    Spot the electrical crime

I hate this.. its rough. I'm pretty sure there is stupid regulation that state as long as the surface area is less than a certain CSA it doesn't require earthing as long as it is RCD protected. I'm going to try and find it now ?

Does this metal post need to be earthed or bonded or neither?

IMO as long has it has a connection to a cpc and the entire length of the cable that is in contact with the pole is 30mA rcd protected. you don't need to take a main bond to it.. If it wasn't RCD protected before coming in contact with the pole then it would require bonding.

    UK Brexit and your business

Not effecting my buisness, I'm pretty busy at the moment and have projects that will last me well into next summer. I do think Brexit is having an effect on some though, I think its more the fact that people are cautious, and are hesitant to make decisions until Brexit is over. In my area lots...

Go on Laugh I don't care

When I did my Apprenticeship you had to complete your 2360 pt1 and pt2 /NVQ3 before you could take your 2391 or 2400.. I don't mind the short courses too much, they serve as an indroduction into the industry. but these nothing to stop you taking a short course then taking your 2391 and then...

Inspection and testing 2391-52 advice please.

As mentioned the whole exam is based on Guidance note 3. Theres various YouTube videos you can also watch and Chris Kitcher has a series of videos which go along to a book he's written. "Practical guide to testing and inspection". 20 odd years ago Chris taught me the regulation side of part 2...

    Which fire rated downlighters?

I generally fit downlights with a Gu10 lamp holder so you can change the lamp if required. The reason behind this is because if an integrated one fails in 5 years and the manufacturer changes their design then you may have to change the whole lot or have an odd light. Intergrated ones are a...

    Ring or Radial

Its funny how people get told something and run with it... I've been told but some clever fool that I shouldn't use 1mm cable for lights. When I asked why he said, "got told it by my QS". When I asked him to show me the calculations to say that it's wrong he couldn't, basically he's just...
