Multifunctional Testers - Which one have you got and how long has it lasted?

:) I know sounds silly, and its clutching at straws but everything was in the place was on a spd extension leads. I didn't pay too much attention at the time but he did mentioned that the mcb for the rfc tripped once when he was reset the RCD while carrying out the auto test. We unplugged...

Multifunctional Testers - Which one have you got and how long has it lasted?

I looked after it, test leads always coiled up nice after each use too.. The only thing I can thing of is prior to this I got my trainee to carry out a RCD test at a property that had loads of surge protected extensions leads. He left them plugged in along with other stuff when doing the auto...

Multifunctional Testers - Which one have you got and how long has it lasted?

My Dilog DL9118 died in the middle of an EICR on Friday. Shows a continuity reading of 0.24 on low ohms even with test leads disconected. Lasted around 2years :( Had to pop to CEF ended up getting the Megger 1941+ with the new EV adapter. Didn't really want to pay that much. Fingers crossed it...

    Replace this board

As above Wylex is the best option! Proteus do one but its cr@p has old AC type RCCBs so its not really reccomended either. I had to sort one out the other day. Think it was in the thread about pulling DNO fuses. I'll see if I can link to the thread...

    Upgrade tails on CU replacement?

I think your right! I did see a snippet of A2 (which is due to go to DPC soon) which Sparkninja put on his instagram, I expect you saw it too! The wording was something along the lines of,"Type AC rcds can only be used to serve fixed equipment, where it is known the load contains no DC...

    Pulling cutout fuses

I recently was called out to look at a possible rewiring job, The customer had someone in to do some work in the bathroom (6 months prior) as part of that work they changed to consumer unit and put an Earth stake in. Anyway the consumer unit was a mess, you could tell the previous electrician...

    SPD Installation

It is acceptable for the SPD to be installed in parallel to the intake, the combined lengths of conductors connecting the SPD should be less than 1meter this is to keep resistance and inductance as low as possible, the Bema guide states that its good practice to twist or cable tie the conductors...

    UK Electrical Qualifications ECS Card

Were you sponsored by someone like the JTL when you did your apprenticeship? You might be able to contact them? When you speak to the ECS its like speaking to the Little Britain character, the one who said, "The computer said no".

Select (Scottish) Certification Scheme Question on volt drop from 2391

C&G do this alot especially in multiply choice papers, although the wording they use is generally "maximum volt drop" I believe they just do it to check the candidates knows how to apply basic correction values, as they always give both answers. Another one they like to check is that the...

Select (Scottish) Certification Scheme Question on volt drop from 2391

R1+Rn x design current = volt drop at nominal temp (R1xRn x design current) x1.2 = volt drop at 70°c So yes correct answer is 14.2 volts.

    Ridiculous pricing ? OMG!!!!!

Let the other person crack on, i think you were a little cheap, its alright if you can get in and out, but its very rare in these larger jobs. there's always a few niggles to get around on the second fix so id be looking at around £16,000 at least.

So AFDD then for all Landlords???

IMO the statement about SPDs in the regs could be clearer. How do you justify that? A small SPD CU can be purchased for around £50, a more expensive Wylex main Isolator with SPD can be purchased from TLC for £140 labour costs for a mornings work is approx £150, So if you work on the generous...

    UK Pricing

I'd be about £1750, if it were a particularly easy job I might go as low as £1500. Did you say you quoted £1250 I think that is very cheap especially with two cooker circuits.
