    Home Lighting Control System

The system I use is Loxone, but it depends on how much you want to spend time wise and how big your house is. Their own topology is called a tree system.. It works of 4 cores on a Cat 7, two being the 24v+/- and another two being their tree bus system... However you could just wire each switch...

Sorry! yes, your correct Retractive switches in parallel.

    Multi room extract fan

Intermittent extract fans will very rarely comply in a modern property with double glazing as you physically cant get enough trickle vents into the windows to let fresh air in. We use these quite often. https://www.greenwood.co.uk/product/187/cmev4e-cmev4eht They run at a constant low speed...

    Which downlights do you use?

Thanks for the info! I've been using these, but never knew they did an attachment.

    Which downlights do you use?

These are quite nice, however I'm not sure they are fire rated, they are great in places that dont need fire protection but work out more expensive (with hoods) then others.

    Which downlights do you use?

I haven't personally tried it, I did go to along to a training course put on by the local wholesalers but personally I cant see myself installing it. IMO It's just another Zigbee system, which every manufacturer is churning out at the moment. It has it's own hub but it is pretty basic and...

Too much work, how to cope with it all..

@Peter1891 I understand what you are going through and it seems like you are in exactly the same as me this time last year. I was too busy to cope myself, I didn't start my buisness with loads of cash so I was working all the hours I could and doing all the paperwork and accounts aswell...

First time I've seen that range. looks nasty!

    Which downlights do you use?

Try to use cans where possible just because I had a bad experience when we installed a load of intergrated fittings to a large open plan barn some years back... They were the old Halers (7 year guarantee) but they started failing just after a year. It caused such an issue as the design changed...

Anyone worried about working at the moment?

Im going to Crawley too, mines on the 15th of July with Napits "Premier Training" looks like it's at a Premier Inn on the Manor Royal estate. I'm not really interested in the OLEV grant or doing much EV but thought it might be interesting.

    Unusual 2 way switching.

Seems very complicated just for a loft light. Can't you tuck a neon indication in a wardrobe or cupboard upstairs so it's not on show. If you wired from the loft light switch, through a a switched fused spur (with neon) then onto your loft light, you then have the option to isolate the loft...

Outdoor t&e - EICR fault code?

Depends, on a few factors... Use your engineering judgement and be confident in your decision. Books are good for guidance but they cant account for every situation. You could code this C1 C2 or C3. Maybe no code. I'd check If it's all gone brittle or not, and where it is? I'd personally code...

Anyone worried about working at the moment?

I've had to go back to work, I feel I dont really have a choice. I went from being a sole trader to becoming Ltd on the 1st April which means I lose out on any government help. I have alot of money and materials tied up in ongoing jobs, which have slowed down so I've been a bit anxious, as I...

    240v DC! led strip lights

I've used it before. The 230v runs along the outside edge, its usually only cuttable every meter, and once cut it needs property sealing. The insulation is thick too. Its probably the size of a 6mm T&E. It does have its uses but if using it's best to by exactly what lengths you need and avoid...

    Domestic extention and smoke alarms

I'm not a fan of Nest products. Although the Alarms offer nice features like a fancy app and self test feature. Googles buisness model is data. Firms like Aico have no hidden agenda.

So what brands are we all using for power tools?

Moved from blue Bosch to Milwaukee, I've used Dewault but it's never lasted, even the Xrp drills have only lasted a couple of years. I think us electricians are pretty hard on our drills in general, so whatever brand you buy make sure it's a top of the range version, especially if your going to...

Only 2 brands for domestic type A rcd/rcbo + type 2 spd in board??

It really depends on the SPD whether it needs an OCPD. Its my understanding that SPDs are designed to fail open circuit. Pretty sure they are manufactured with a small soldered joint which is spring loaded, this is designed to melt under high fault currents and break the contact.
