If you want to comply with BS 7671 then that states that it must be after entry to the premises, or words to that effect.
If you put it outside then it is a deviation that must be noted.
Then, if you bond outside, you must defer to gas regulations as to how you bring the cable into the premises...
Bond is to be inside the premises, some of the gas industry paperwork is simply wrong.
It is doubtful that the gas fitter knows what is required.
He's certainly NOT a registered Engineer, that's for sure.
It always puzzles me why machine builders put devices on their machines that are not needed. If they didn't fit them they could save themselves loads of money, and either keep that as profit, or sell their machines cheaper and sell more of them, possibly even cheaper than their competition who...
AFDD's are coming in to try and eliminate the absolutely rubbish domestic appliances that are being sold, which are barely compliant if compliant.
The trouble is the appliance manufacturers are too powerful to tackle, and the fault is being placed on the electrical industry, not the appliance...
Just be careful as you are designing a safety system now which is outside the remit of BS 7671, and the consequences of failure could be considerable.
Make sure you are insured to do this, and make sure that the contactor whilst 100A rated has a suitable characteristic for the load.
Darkwood is...
So, where does the Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations come in?
This is the UK implementation of the Low Voltage Directive.
Ok, technically you don’t have to type test, but, then, as the manufacturer of the assembly, you have to complete your technical file, proving that the equipment you...
BS 7671 defers to BS 7430 on the detailed information and specifics of earthing, and there is a bit to it, but, to avoid interference rods should really be twice the driven depth apart.
All the new regulation does is bring this into BS 7671 because the requirement in law was being ignored by sparks.
The legal requirement for type tested assemblies has been in place since 1994, so it's not new, it's just been ignored by electricians for the last 24 years and the "industry" is...
There is not necessarily a problem with exporting an earth if it's done correctly.
I think that there is some misunderstanding with regard to this, and yes there is a lot of guidance on doing this.
I think that the discussions with regard to the exporting earths has been quite vociferous and...
It should only be an issue with open circuit PEN/CNE conductors, but even on presented TN-S supplies these days they are often TN-C-S further upstream.
They annoying thing is the extents that the paying customer (& thus the spark) has to potentially go to so that the DNO's can get away with a...
That is pretty much correct spin.
Under rule 43, the coroner wrote to theNICEIC, and they wrote to all their QS's & PDH's at that point in time.
Or at least they told the Coroner they did, because if they hadn't the Coroners powers could have taken that further.
I dunno, but that was the expert witness evidence provided by the forensic investigation.
If the circuit was repeatedly energised then it may well have blown the cpc away, we don't have adequate detail to know.
What was the fault current, I think it may have been a block of flats?
As she was...
gerry,
Not you, I'll say before anyone jumps on me, but, there are dim-wit's out there.
It is not uncommon to see plastic pipework with a copper section fitted about 6" long with a bonding clamp fitted to it.
Quite what that accomplishes apart from bonding the 6" of copper I don't know.
The...
If you read the Coroners report and the expert witness investigations, the cpc was vaporised by the fault, I'm not saying that there was no dead testing, but it would seem that the cpc had been vaporised before the insulation resistance testing had been done, i.e. the installation was energised...
No worries, sorry Ian, I think that there is merit in discussing exporting earths, just not in this thread.
I think he has some valid points, but may not have made them well.
#e5 has been in my signature on here for several months now, perhaps even a year, or more.
