Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

My sources are from JPEL64, JPEL64 panels, the WRPC, & the IET, the NICEIC, STROMA & NAPIT. That report has been discussed by the above, as have the results, and BRE have been involved, and the consensus is that cables above a plasterboard ceiling do not require any additional support, as the...

Fire rated clips - any suggestions?

A standard plasterboard ceiling is 30min fire rating (from building regulations), this is considered by the "industry"as an acceptable duration. This will be the advice that comes out from the "industry" bodies, all of them. They will also agree and publish that plastic wall plugs are fine. I...

Using an encoder to control a VFD.

You have a lot of options, but an encoder card in the slave drive, with the encoder on the “master” would work. You will have to program the drive to recognise the card & “follow” the encoder as a speed reference. Will the drive firmware allow that function?

Using an encoder to control a VFD.

As an Ex-Indramat (Bosch Rexroth) engineer, I would say yes it is easy, if your drive has an encoder input, what drives are you using, and what motors, a lot of the BR drives can take encoder inputs from multiple sources.

    PLCs information required?

I think that the Siemens Logo is a bit nearer to "real" PLC, but still a long way off. There are HMI's with free software. There is also a few IEC standards on PLC type software, including an IEC language. There are also free PLC programming packages out there too. Manufacturer courses tend to...

Earth clamp for TN-S lead sheath supply cable

Around here, WPD territory, to remove that, is a hole in the road, a live cut, then they remove the clamp and check the cable, if all is well, they sort the interior bit, then live joint in the street outside, that’s how seriously they take the danger from 951’s on PILC.

No lad, I didn't know. You might remember some fat middle aged bloke asking you in the bar what you had won gold for then saying "Ahh you were the lad who got the medal off Steve Bratt" (I think it was him who gave you the medal, I can't remember now it was a couple of weeks ago!)

Explosion proof fittings in garage pits..

Same as being insured to do work in these areas also. Most "normal" electrical contracting policies will exclude DSEAR zoned areas. Those that include it will likely require relevant CompEx qualifications & competence.

    SY Cable? Thoughts?

The thing with SWA is that it is not suitable for EMC screening that drive cables will require. This is a known issue with SWA & drives, and has been proven with EMC testing and analysis.

    18th edition question

Which discussion please? Every public discussion involving the IET, Certsure, or NAPIT has stated that a plasterboard ceiling is fine as a fire break, thus anything above is fine without metallic fixings.

    18th edition question

Plasterboard has a 30 minute fire rating from building regulations. Check the Electrcial Safety First website to see if the questions of plastic plugs has been addressed in the faq section.

    DC 110KW Drive Problem

Registers #1 to #19 will give you the drive status at point of failure until the drive is powered down. Each register has a use and the status will help you identify the fault. Note them down, and then check against the documents what the contents of those registers refer to. That will tell you...
