    Sy cable question

I have seen plenty of instances where SY has been used such as you have shown but it does amuse me that if you are not going to use the appropriate glands and earth the braid, why bother using it at all?

Terminal Box Wiring Coming Through Wall for Conduit

Yes you need to drill a 20mm hole through the wall and take the conduit through if your going to be doing it properly.

Upgrading electrical systems in Buckinham Palace.

The opportunity to with micc sizes above 25mm in this day and age would be something special. I'd jack my job in to work with the bigger sizes for sure.

    micc on rcbo

Yep, the old council spec was mostly either steel conduit or micc both for the flats and communal areas on the local authority where I used to work. Nowadays its thrown in, cheap and work that a bloke pulled off the street could put his hand to in a day. :(

    Interesting cable system

I've seen it before in '60s tower blocks. it's a hard black pvc flat sheath with insulated line conductors and bare enclosed cpc. I think the idea was that you could pull through the live conductors to rewire.

    Steel Conduit

I've just run 150 meters of 20mm galv around the circumference of a silo for lighting. Nothing beats metal IMO.

    Interlocked switched Socket Outlets

Hi, Other than ABB, anybody know of a manufacturer that offers auxiliary contacts operated by the switch on industrial socket outlets? Failing this I'll have to make a panel mounted version. Cheers.

    Digging out for aback box...

I always use a grinder when chasing out. It creates alot of dust but you can get a nice square edge to your back boxes and dont have to demolish half the wall in the process!

Using extraneous metal as bonding conductor

Think I am going to give this a try, any preference to the lead ratio in the solder? unfortunately they don't teach sweated joints during your apprenticeship these days

    Bonding

an earth rod wouldn't be acceptable for equipotential bonding purposes.

Using extraneous metal as bonding conductor

Bit of a PITA to do it any other way. All of the run is exposed to the eye on natural stone walls. Micc would be the only decent looking alternative. Interesting point, anything stopping me running a 2l2.5* micc as a bonding conductor and linking the inner cores and sheath together? Taking...
