Emergency light checks - Essential work?

I appreciate the different views, but I will do them because I am not putting myself or others at risk and I'm obeying the 2 metre rule, plus should an emergency evacuation be necessary from the flats in dark hours and there was an issue with the lights then it could potentially be serious. I'm...

Emergency light checks - Essential work?

I have cancelled all my jobs, but I conduct monthly light checks on blocks of flats, so I am planning on still doing them because I don't have to be inside peoples homes or near them (at least 2 metre separation). Would others also consider emergency light checks to be essential works?

UK Garage electrics - analysing quotes

In domestic garages I always put in metalclad sockets and would only use plastic conduit as metal conduit is a complete overkill in 99% of home garages.

Being self employed and the coronavirus

I just hope the part Pee organisations will allow members to freeze their memberships if they need to (without paying their monthly fees). The same applies to the advertising scams such as trustatrader and checkatrade etc.

    Texecom premier elite upgrade

I have a wireless texecom panel with v3.02 firmware, and I want to add a texecom ethernet connect unit but the panel has to be upgraded to version 4. I got the unit below in the connect box, so can this upgrade my panel to version 4 or do I need to buy an actual flasher unit (about £38 from...

I changed ceiling light and it won’t light up!

I get you, so it's only a qualified electrician who has to issue a minor works cert for replacing a light fitting?

I changed ceiling light and it won’t light up!

Won't he require the test gear to complete the minor works cert?

I changed ceiling light and it won’t light up!

Timmymeads, As already suggested, call an electrician. Is money really that tight that you can't afford to pay an electrician to make it safe, or is it that you just don't want to part with your money?

Mini sun downlights - any good?

Thanks, but they have to be chrome and the customer wants gu10s.

Mini sun downlights - any good?

I have loads of 12 volt downlights to replace, and Mini sun are the ideal size with a 65mm hole required for them. They are fire rated, but my issue is that because some are going in bathrooms (all chrome), I don't want them getting pitted after a year or two as I would feel obliged to replace...

    Kinetic Wireless Dimmer Switches

I bought the wifi receiver but despite following the instructions time and time again and resetting everything numerous times I gave up because the receiver just wouldn't pair with the app. The other issue is that not everyone wants to use an app to dim their lights. I have the quinetic...

    Kinetic Wireless Dimmer Switches

Update: I tried the quinetic with intergral gu10s and they didn't dim very low at all, so I called TLC who said to use their gu10s that they work fine with, so despite already buying gu10s I ordered loads more at double the price and less power. Unfortunately they were no better than the...

Private rental EICRs are coming soon

I rarely get EICRs that I quote for, because too many people are willing to undercut me and charge loose change in the hope they can get lots of work from the customer out of their EICR and make up their money that way (I won't ever get into that nonsense).

    Pricing

Around £3k in North West London. I don't quote for rewires anymore as it's not worth the time and hassle because there are too many cowboys quoting silly prices, and they often use non skilled non English speaking labour who probably earn under the minimum wage.

Fault find (Electrical condition report) or (Electrical Installation certificate)

Why cause confusion entering the fault on an eicr when it was resolved (there won't be a fault present when the EICR is completed).

Fault find (Electrical condition report) or (Electrical Installation certificate)

Is an EICR intended/designed to be used for a minor repair?

Fault find (Electrical condition report) or (Electrical Installation certificate)

Pete, When I attend a fault that is something simple like a poor connection or a faulty switch or socket, I will resolve the fault and do a simple ZS and RCD test and that's it. Tighting a loose wire or replacing a light switch or socket won't get me issuing any type of cert. I have...
