    Storage heater tripping

I'm not sure if I have found the cause of the tripping, as there is something about this cable that doesn't look right:

    Storage heater tripping

I didn't open the heater as apart from checking the obvious things I am frankly clueless and have only ever installed them and not repaired them, plus the lady didn't know at the time if it was still under warranty (it's not). I will pop back next week and check inside the heater.

    Storage heater tripping

Thanks for the replies guys. The 15amp cartridge fuse is as it should be. It's a 3kw heater. I haven't done any tests its circuit due to it instantly blowing the 30amp mcb on the main board, so it indicates the issue is with the heater and not the circuit, but it's odd that it's not blowing...

    Storage heater tripping

I went to a call regarding a dimplex storage heater not coming on during economy 7 hours. I did the basic tests and the storage heater is on an old board with cartridge fuses, and the fuse was fine and the FCU switch was also okay. I connected the heater to a 13 amp plug and every time it was...

    12 volt catenary lighting transformer?

Anyone any idea where I can ideally get an identical or similar replacement transformer for this (used for 12 volt catenary lighting). Any suggestions appreciated

Am I legally allowed to change a light switch on domestic without Part P?

Most unsafe/dodgy electrical work isn't even probably done by sparks, but builders, mates of a mates, diyers etc. Regardless of who flauts the part P regs I honestly don't even believe that as many as 1% are prosecuted. I would doubt as many as 0.1% are prosecuted. The exception being that...

Am I legally allowed to change a light switch on domestic without Part P?

I still tell customers I'm part P approved and they are almost always clueless what part P is so it doesn't really make any difference if you tell them you are part Z, M or F approved, registered or qualified (it is only 14 years since it was introduced so give it time).

Am I legally allowed to change a light switch on domestic without Part P?

Yes you can. A certificate is not required to replace a light switch, and although I would be reluctant to advise a diyer to replace a light switch, you clearly seem more than up to the task.

    Installing garden spike light

It's been illegal for many years now for unregistered people to do certain types of electrical work, but unfortunately few take much notice and just do unsafe/un certificated work all the time (DIYERs and builders etc). I got criticised on here by some for not issuing a minor works...

    Checka trade / My builder

There are new members on checkatrade with just 2 reviews, when you used to require 10 reviews in order to join. I was told that they now prioritise new members in the listings, so you could have new members ahead of you in a customer's search, when the newbies live many towns away and don't...

Job quotes you know won’t happen

I wouldn't entertain him, but then it depends how desperate you are for work. I recently had a guy reply to my email quote that I sent him almost 11 months beforehand (only a day's work). I might have still done the job had he not moved the goal posts, so I haven't even responded to him as I...

Quinetic wireless units - power reset

Thanks again all. A customer wants 6 of these fitted rather than channel out her walls. Just to clarify, I do recall reading on here a while ago someone saying that occasionally the switches can end up in the wrong position, not of course an issue for 2 way lighting, but not great for one way...

Quinetic wireless units - power reset

Does anyone know if quinetic wireless units (switches/receivers) retain the memory after the power is cut, and if so for how long?

Trusted Trader / Bark / MyBuilder / CheckaTrade in a new area

Perhaps things have changed since Checkatrade was taken over by Homeserve, but I know people whose annual fees almost doubled to £1,500. Lots of people apparently left homeserve/Checkatrade as they weren't willing to be shafted. I wouldn't rely on their refund policy, as no doubt the small...
