What is it on this fault

More than once I've had customers ring to say the RCD lever is 'floppy' and won't latch on - always an MK one where you have to push the lever down first then up and they don't get it. :)

That metering arrangement would be very nice to have. :)

A flex outlet plate and shallow 16mm wall box, very poor. Are you sure there isn't a fused spur upstream of that Buzz ?

    Metal Tool Box or Alternatives

I would hate to be the local shop keeper supplying this kind of stuff.......

Points out of 10 for neatness?

You lot are so over critical , I haven't quite finished that job yet, just a lick of Hammerite on the Wylex boxes and it'll be pristine. :)

Can I simply change this over.

Assuming there is also 30ma RCD protection in place for this circuit and the cable run is exactly as described I'd upgrade the MCB to a 50a if 45a isn't available. it's a bad idea for any overcurrent device to run at a slight overload constantly and although it probably wouldn't 'trip' an...

    40A shower disconnection time

The thing that really gets on my nerves is counting all the 'points' per circuit - tedious ! In terms of a circuit that requires basic or additional protection [depending on the earthing arrangement] by a 30ma RCD then arguably it should disconnect within 300ms ?

Exactly that , bloody scary eh ! :)

    This could have been nasty...

We've been upgrading some bits and pieces in a rented house which hasn't had anything done for at least 40 years by the looks of it. The picture is where an old fused spur and box was being renewed as it was really manky and cracked too. This would once have been the external wall but a 'lean...

    Planning garage sub-main project

Yes that's right. Have a look at earthing or 'Piranha' nuts though, easier and IMO better than the old Banjo method. I'd be using 3 core SWA though.

    Planning garage sub-main project

The right hand side of your board with the lighting MCBs isn't RCD protected and the blank will be a spare way- so subject to a decent Ze you could simply fit an additional matching MCB for the new SWA, but it will have to be glanded properly, possibly into a small metal enclosure to ensure the...

Very similar if not identical to Wylex MCBs of that era.

Nice little bit of Pyro work in there, I realise that's no help at all though. :)

    Lucien Nunes Electrical Engineer Extraordinaire

I've only just seen this and read every post, every single one is from the heart and confirm what an incredible man Lucien was. Personally I feel very sad , much more than you'd expect from someone you've never met, I think that says a lot about his influence on all of us too. I'd like to think...

With a TNCS the supplier never connects a main earth conductor, that's down to us - they provide the terminal only. I'd be tempted to arrange a quick visit from the seal fairy and have a little peek inside to see if there's a N-E link or one piece N & E block. I'd bet there is. :)

No they apply the stickers individually when fitting cutouts and will fit the appropriate one, have you done a Ze to the terminal under the blanking grommet ?

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but you do know the supply is TNCS there ?

Electric Meter Switch Isolator wiring orientation

I was once told by an ex navy Electrician that if common and L1 were swapped over in a one way switch it would then operate upside down ?! :)
