AFDD's (Please sign this in case your house burns down)?

Great thread, I will have a read through the link provided at the start. The cost outweighs the supposed unproven benefits. Asking the customer to make a decision will puts the responsibility on them and the decision will be based on cost, especially as little has been proven etc. You may get...

    UK Cowboy electrician

That's the point. I remember my college tutor telling us his hatred for dual rcds boards. He always backed it up with showing us the regulation. Unfortunatly I'm sat in a caravan in a rainy field and dont have the regs with me. I'm sure its something like "the failure of one circuit should not...

Getting back to the OP, I'm fairly certain the regs state the failure of 1 circuit shouldn't effect another. With that in mind, upfront rcds protecting numerous circuits doesnt comply. Personally I have seen worst installs than this. It's fairly neat compared to alot of new installs, the lack...

    Flexible Conduit (N.Bundy job)

I remember watching that video, I still think it looks cluttered and busy. Personally I would have ran rigid conduit but then I'm partial to a nice heavy gauge black conduit

Would ferrule ends make for a more secure connection in this instance?

Well I'm not investing in that kind of tester. What can I do to confirm the condition of the cable. I'm still confused by the term "capability" it's not the sort of terminology I'd expect when referring to the condition of a cable. That would be more like integrity or condition etc.... Sorry...

    Aico smoke detector wiring

At the moment the detectors will just be fed from a dedicated circuit. To get to my consumer unit you need to move a shoe cabinet which isnt the easiest. The only way I can see aboit preventing turning the smokes off in the event of a fault is to utilise the lighting circuit like mentioned above.

Is there no way 1 data outlet could be converted into 2 or 3 outlet via a connector? I'm just concerned running 2 or 3 cables to each point on the off chance of using them. I'm defo running 1 to each point but not sure the extra is necessary

Ok so cat 5 is the way forward. So are we saying its advisable to run 2 cables to each point? I'm going to house a switch somewhere and route a cables there to enable more options

Capability of the cabling? The capability of the cabling should be within the spec?? Testing the cabling to ensure damage free correct termination can be confirmed by a proper tester. Although, they usually have flashing lights.

    Aico smoke detector wiring

My point is, can you get x2 t+e cables terminated in it? Feed in and feed to next detector?

    Aico smoke detector wiring

Just about to start pulling in the cables for my smile detectors, however I dint have the detectors yet. Is there enough room in the terminals to terminate a supply feed in and then loop out to the next detector or is a junction box required to house the feed and a supply taken from every J/B?

Thanks for the info, Would cat 6 be more future proof? You mention it can be used for other things not just networking. What things can it be used for? Also, it I was to run 2 cables to each location, would that be 2 cat 5/6 cables?

I am in the process planning a loft conversion with dorma. Part of doing this will involve ripping my upstairs back to brick. Whilst I am doing this I will install extra sockets, update lighting smokes etc. I am debating if it's worth installing a wired network to the upstairs and loft. We donr...

    Suitable RCCB replacent

How odd, taking into account the theory behind rcds, any neutral to earth should operate the device. I cant imagine any condition where the rcd would not see an imbalance when neutral and earth are shorted in some way.... I think by process of elimination I will still try what you have...

    Suitable RCCB replacent

I'll be honest, I dont get that. Iv had rcds that wont hold in because there is a neutral to earth short. What neutral to earth characteristics would denote an rcd tripping and an rcd not operating at all? Earthing arrangement? Extent of short circuit?
  19. gazdkw82

    Suitable RCCB replacent

No its protecting only part of the installation. A split load board. If there was a N-E fault then the rcd should do its job. If it's not tripping then the rccb is still faulty. There was a good Zs reading on the circuit and no odd voltages across N-E. That's how I understand it...

    Suitable RCCB replacent

That's why I'm looking at something that may be suitable in its place.
