You need a sensitive clamp meter on the tails to test earth leakage current from all circuits , failing that a ramp test with all circuits connected may help trace this .
You have to heat it for quite a Time , the flux is good and the hot air station should be fine , practise on old boards or buy a cheap smd practice board , several channels i follow on you tube could show you the best techniques, don’t over heat though and try to keep the board temperature...
I have a seek usb C thermal camera but never tried it on a pc is It a windows laptop or MacBook you have?
I think I have a A to C adapter I could try when I get home
I’m not sure I would run a radial for kitchen sockets unless it’s in 4mm or greater , the old ring will need to be connected to reform the broken ring or changed into 16 or 20 amp radial circuit if it’s in 2.5 cable.
we call ring main a ring final now !
These questions appear to relate to an earlier version of BS7671 as amendment 2 answers are not listed ie sockets near a bath is now 2.5 metres.(3 metres before)
and only a 0.5 and a 1 times test on a 30 ma (RCD) Residual Current Device is now required
Do these meters measure the voltage as well?if not they may be set at 220 v and you may be running at 240 or above that , also power factor may not be ideal which may lead to inaccurate results .
I would start by doing a BS7671 amendment 2 course then a solar and ev charging course , if you intend on completing any notifiable work then enquire with NiCEIC or napit to check if you will need any other qualifications
In a meter the neutral plays no part in the measurement unless its used to power (with the line) any electronics present in the meter .
i have taken single phase meters apart and there is always a solid neutral link with the live sent though a current shunt , the volt drop is then measured over...
It’s referring to the loop from the line (live) back though the transformer then via the earthing path to return (loop) to complete the circuit to your meter
