So an electrician recommended by the fitter who has worked on many building sites and has the following is unqualified?

Just because someone is cheaper doesn’t mean they’ll do a bad job, same as someone expensive doing a good job. Yes in general you do get what you pay for but that price seemed reasonable to me. Don’t you think it says something about the other electrician who dropped £100 once I questioned his...
The fitter sorted out all the chases, but both other electricians expected him to do that, it seems these are jobs electricians don’t like or think they have to do?
Are you guys saying £35 an hour is cheap for an electrician?
Not too sure why there is so much negativity towards this thread. Seems to me its a bit like taking my car to get serviced at BMW, being charged a ridiculous amount for some apprentice to do the work and maybe make a hash of it. Where as I take it to my local garage who has many years in the...
I paid the bloke cash, he runs his own business just himself, had a smart van with professional artwork on the side and fully registered.
The kitchen fitter recommend him and said he has worked on many building sites with him. I should think £460 for 10 hours work is a decent rate, minus the...
Thanks for the replies, the work consisted of:
-Move a couple of light switch down 10 cm.
-Move power socket behind unit for dish washer.
-Make new socket for extractor fan.
-Make new socket for washing machine in the utility.
-Replace all sockets and switch faces (I have bought already)
-Place...
Hi All,
Just wanted anyone's views on why electricians prices are so different, had a few quotes for wiring in a kitchen, quotes came in at:
£1200
£950 (reduced to £850 when I questioned it)
£460
Went with the £460, did a great job, safety certificate the lot. I know none of you will have...
Peter you sound like the reason I got out of the NHS and work privately. People with no medical knowledge giving out advice on mental health conditions.
NO offence taken, not looking for the cheapest but not looking to be ripped off either.
Although the kitchen is not the biggest the house is worth a fair bit on its own private estate, the electrician who quoted also asked me what I do. I told him in a G.P. With this I’m sure he’s whacked £200...
Thanks for the advice everyone, if anyone has any advice on what I can do to help, make life easier and have a bearing on the price that would be great. I can move everything out of the bedroom above so access to the floorboards is quicker.
The bloke isn’t Polish, it’s wrong to discriminate like that too, ive worked with a few Polish people in my work and some have been great at their job.
I will make sure everything is safe and above board, however I don’t want to be ripped off.
Yes I understand no one can give a proper estimate over the phone, I told him everything the other electrician told me. Also I know I’ll require the certificates.
Regarding his tax and ni, that’s not my concern, if he’ll do it cheaper for cash then happy days.
I’m sure the kitchen will be fine and comes with an inter grated dishwasher, oven, hob and extractor.
I’ve got another electrician coming round soon who has said the other price is too high from what I’ve told him.
