On off car battery switch - cable length?

Yes that’s right, I had a 92 Mini Cooper 1.3 SPI (single point injection) the first one to have fuel injection as opposed to a carb. Every time the battery was disconnected and reconnected the engine would “behave” differently for a while till the ECU got used to things Dubman, you might have...

On off car battery switch - cable length?

Actually just had a thought, if you were to use a relay, it would need a constant feed to keep it “closed” so the negative is connected. Should this feed or the relay fail during driving, it will be the same as the battery been suddenly disconnected and may be dangerous. Might be best to stick...

On off car battery switch - cable length?

Would a suitable relay not be a better way of doing this? then you would only need a small switch and wiring to the interior of car to isolate the negative side of battery.

    Selling old MCB'S and RCBO's

Any RCBOs that are now obsolete or expensive to buy new (ie old Square D QOE or old memshield ) should sell on eBay for a good price, particularly if you take good photos and even test and state the tripping times. As far as mcbs are concerned you will have to practically give them away...

    What would you do here.

Was just thinking out aloud with that idea, was thinking of the tidiest way to do it, but of course Zs readings etc would have to be taken into account for suitability of protective device.

    What would you do here.

Why is the bottom switch not used? Could it be defective (possibly damp / moisture ingress?) and they’ve just left it place and fitted new one above? I know you’d rather keep the fused switches ,but Could you not install a small DB with a main switch and two 63amp mcbs, so you’ve got isolation...

    Electrical wire connectors help please

If you do decide to cut and solder the cables, stagger the joints so A - it will not short out, and B - will be a neater job. Not my work....photo off web.

    MIC / Pyro Cable help

I always found smearing the copper sheath with a little Vaseline worked wonders with the joystripper, also add a tiny spot on the threads of the pot to help it go on better. The positioning of the blade on the joystripper is vital, a lot of trial and error, a tiny adjustment can make all the...

3 phase breaker across 2 phases?

Im not sure if there’s any regulations prohibiting this but I feel it isn’t right and is bad practice. Would be far better to rearrange the mcbs to gain a correct 3phase position without having to go across different circuit numbers. Plus lableing the circuit would appear confusing....an...

Damn, bought myself a new toy.......

The picture of that soldering iron reminds me of years ago as a kid, my dad was soldering something, and was working on the kitchen table, he rested the iron on a saucer and also used it for somewhere to flick the excess solder onto!

Is he a courier or electrician?

I’m also a nosey bugger! I also checked the mot history. I think there’s been an error at the mot place as 2013 it’s 111k then 2014 jumps to 628k, then 2015 it’s 127k......it seems to have failed the mot a lot in its time, a sign it’s had a hard life!

    Hi All. Need some advice

Boilers are nothing! I did the same to a control panel that operated 6 fume cupboards at the Chemistry Department! The panel was around 30 years old, and apparently would cost thousands to repair, luckily they had some spares! Again I only switched it off to try and identify unknown circuits in...
