    Bathroom extraction fan

Ideally the cooker hood should be vented externally In your case possibly best through the roof via a ducting and a roof vent tile I have known of them to be just ducted into the attic space ;) most roofs have vent tiles built in for purpose of the timbers to breath, so at least there was...

    Found during fault finding

I have heard that comment made quite a few times over the years Not sure if there may be a regional aspect to its availability ,though I doubt it very much I personally have installed thousands of metres of twin brown over the years,I have never found a problem sourcing it locally Its...

Help - Had some work done

If you think about it functionally, when or if a fault developed on your downstairs lights or a lamp blew and took out the downstairs breaker, you would have the benefit of light in the hallway instead of all lights down being lost Possibly its a well thought out split of the light points

    Cut meter tails

I disagree with your last posted comment, recognised methods for extending cables may not be to our personal taste but are fully compliant I disagree also with your earlier comment which I have highlighted above f The entry of the tails into the cabinet should be upwards from the bottom Cables...

    Cut meter tails

Rather than just click a negative icon :confused:What in my post do you disagree with, maybe expand your reasoning with the post and we can debate the subject

    Cut meter tails

Whats at the other side of the wall? With a bottom right hand entry to the meter box, those tails look far too short to extend inside the cabinet I suppose a switch fuse house side of that wall would be a no go ? The choices left if "changing" them is not on, inline crimping with heat...

All these old tunes being quoted

As a sop to the younger crowd and as a testament to my thinking that older does not mean better, here is a newer version of a song that's better than the original and no its not written or sung by Edsisname Spirit in the Sky Had to add a comment that was made about this track on YouTube MY...

    Is Part 'P' enforceable?

I was registered 2 days ago and found during my time that competitors ( some of them mates)they had no problems at all after doing notifiable work whilst not registered Registration is also a voluntary means of complying Because someone is not registered it does not mean they are not qualified...

    Is Part 'P' enforceable?

If there is full plans approval then as far as I know the electrical inspections are paid as part of that fee when the building inspector asks for the part 'P' certificate In my experience all he will ever expect is a installation certificate ! He would then take no action to check from...

    EICR - made me laugh

I tend to agree with you on the above I also believe he probably meant well by giving remedies to his observations, however,it ended up making the report a jumbled mess by doing precisely that action

Burried SWA for a log cabin

They would not give you that permission If the pme is taken to a shed it will be the electrician himself taking on that responsibility, if the circumstances comply with whats required by our regs then the liability is reduced

    Checka trade / My builder

I have never taken any jobs from these middlemen but got myself registered with MY Builder just for the hell of it I get quite a few e mails every single day with varying jobs that are advertised The format is that a spark shows interest in a job and if he is shortlisted by the middlemen a fee...

nicely fried - 9.5kw shower, not certificates for the job

davesparks It is a switch, it should be capable of being switched on and off regularly, that's the whole point of it being there. What's the point in installing an ugly pull switch in a bathroom if you can't even use it? They obviously aren't any use for safe isolation as they can't be readily...

nicely fried - 9.5kw shower, not certificates for the job

That's half the battle,Joe public treating a shower switch as they would a light switch, try get them to leave it well alone I tell them if it was a wall switch hidden by junk in the back of a pantry ,are they going to empty the pantry to operate it, they then get surprised when the ends get fried

All these old tunes being quoted

I am one to readilly admit, there is good music now, same as there as always been good music Its just that in the sixties and seventies the new music was fresh, the class acts were far more abundant and the measure of great talent was more worthy There is no comparison whatsoever between the...

All these old tunes being quoted

Putting Rap to one side (the very far side) because I have never considered it music, there is now and always has been good music throughout and even since the advent of radio for the masses The only difference between the times is newness, creativity is based on finding something new to...

    Is certificate part of installation?

Separate to the subject of contravening the IEE regulations for not supplying certification for the electrical installation As far as I know there is always a company warranty that requires the installer to supply meter readings to include in the guarantee paperwork that comes with the mats...

Has this consumer unit been installed correctly?

Its always a sorry tale when work has to be redone and paid for a second time Poor standards even reflect negatively on the vast majority who do good work and are honest tradesmen
