Please don't let them fit open connector blocks shoved into the ceiling with a bit of tape wrapped around,it is often the usual mutilation of connecting downlights by builders and others:(
Connections shoved up into the ceiling do not comply with regulations plus its one of my few pet...
Lets be sure of what is implied when you talk of supply from a substation
Can you give a example of the work and highway notifications required to get a supply into a new dwelling
Just noticed my name has changed from Des to Of
After nearly seventy years I was getting quite used to Des as well, never mind,I shall just have to learn to adapt I suppose:)
My wife bless her little heart A few times after a appliance gives up the ghost, she has asked if is ok to get a man in to fix,I gave up years ago telling her "I can do electrics"
In the days "before" test meters were readily available,it was no big deal at all to use a set of test lamps to see if a cable was live:oops:
Sometimes the diligent spark may have bunged what would hopefully be the dead live cores to earth ( that is after closing his eyes)o_O
Surprisingly it...
You have what appears to be a bonding cable at the bottom pipe.
The size needs to be confirmed as adequate, the bond needs to be made before any intersection, yours is in the wrong position, also the "do not remove" warning tag is all but destroyed
Employ a sparks to put it right
Can you state the reasons why future unknown and possible extra loading is going to require a sometimes expensive ( and also not necessarily guaranteed) upgrade by the supplier may be needed?
Unless you can,I would be tempted to find something else to spend my money on rather than taking a...
I tried sending this message via pm rather than jump on a thread but can't seem to be able to do so
Below is a copy, please could you help with my request
I have no interest in the title discussions and their outcome
Please could you also remove the Diy and trainee tags
They now tend to to make...
The situation arose because of the Landlords installation being low cost
If the installation did not comprise cheap (and in this case) ineffective single pole sockets, the toaster would have not stopped the supply being reset
The Landlord relied on single pole devices when double pole are...
You could try and get the supplier to sort
Considering that they are only obliged to maintain a existing earth, they may politely tell you to provide your own
Perhaps rip off that boxing and see whats going on yourself
I have some under cupboard lights to do myself on a new kitchen, out of interest I Googled whats out there, these may be a novel item for me to fit
this
If there are tripping issues that is driving this decision then there are other circuit problems that need attention and priority
If there are no tripping issues, same as Andy "a lot of work for little or no benefit
You may also have to assess the would be radials to be better balanced for...
Hi- I think its "possibly" for the first part and "yes" for the second
Although you have a TT earth system it may not be so for the whole of the supply line
If its a TT derived from a Tnc-s supply then the current may get back to the star point via Pme rods whilst on its way back home
Don't forget to open a drain hole on that socket so that any leaking water that did enter the enclosure will not build up
Is this socket circuit Rcd protected
Probably the red in the fitting at the moment is a permanent live
The wiring connections seems to have been messed up by yourself
It would probably be a very simple job for a spark, so hopefully it may be not be too costly
