    SWA For meter tails?

Sorry for the slow reply to everyone. Been out for my daughters birthday. To answer some of the questions the DNO is due to come to upgrade my main fuse to 100A (extension project including an induction hob) so the tails to the CU need upgrading 1st. Did diversity calcs and I'm struggling to get...

    SWA For meter tails?

I need to upgrade my meter tails to 25mm. The existing tails pass along under the pebble dash in plastic conduit (which would be too small), then apparently at an angle through the porch structure (unprotected) then turn sideways into a void & up the void to CU. I have seen other posts where...

OK to T consumer unit for garage off existing SWA to workshop?

I currently have a 10mm T&E SWA cable (which passes through my garage) serving a small CU in my workshop at the bottom of my garden (200ft). The garage is currently connected to a FCU on the downstairs ring, but I would like to T off the SWA and add another consumer unit in the garage. First...

freezers in garages true or false

I did quite a bit of research into this at one stage and it seems Beko are the only manufacturer who's Freezers & Fridge Freezers are designed to work in a Garage.

Bad experience having isolator switch fitted by Scottish Power/Actavo

I "recently" contacted my DNO to have an isolator switch fitted beside my meter (my consumer unit needs changing and I didn't want to pull the fuse). I was told I needed to contact Scottish Power who charged me £85 but failed to turn up for the appointment, resulting in me having to contact them...

Fitting an extractor fan with 3A fuse

Thanks for the suggestions, l didn't realise fan isolator switches were available that incorporated a fuse. Vent-Axia seem to have gone quiet since I flagged the shared neutrals point with them. As it turns out I have actually got the newer version of the fan as per the instructions...

Fitting an extractor fan with 3A fuse

Other people have mentioned the same thought in earlier discussions so l queried the point with Vent-Axia. Their reply was "I'm afraid the fused spur is a requirement and is there to protect the installation". Others have also pointed out that we have to follow the manufacturers instructions to...

Fitting an extractor fan with 3A fuse

Interesting! The diagrams are completely different to the copy of the installation instructions l downloaded about a week ago for the same model fans, which show the fuse for both basic and timer models. The stock reference Nos have also changed (but not the models). There must have been a...

Fitting an extractor fan with 3A fuse

I am in the process of fitting an in-line extractor fan (ACM125T) that requires a 3A fuse, for a utility room. Vent-Axia have advised That I do need a fused spur, from either the lighting circuit or the ring main circuit (as well as a fan isolator switch). They also said "the switched live does...

Converting from IT Techie to Sparky - need some practical experience

Maybe sticking to domestic work would help avoid exposure to Asbestos and I guess the worst of arc flash too. Knees & back - is that down to working in confined spaces and lots of kneeling? The latter could probably be mitigated with the right gear.

I should say that I realise there is a fair bit of keeping up to date with being an Electrician, but nothing like the IT world.

Converting from IT Techie to Sparky - need some practical experience

Hi all, I'm based in Essex, sure I did put that info up somewhere. I decided to change direction for reasons other than money. To start with I was made redundant (job went to Russia rather than India) & because what I had been doing in a recent years at a large company was quite...
