You bright sparks should switch off before you trip something. As comedians, you are all short of a few watts. Maybe you should go ohm and get grounded before you go into shock.
Power in does not necessarily equal heat out. The dryer blows most of the heat out of the front vent (remember to clean out the fluff every time you use it), while the freezer needs airflow over the heat exchanger at the back or it will not work. The washing machine will not get very hot at all...
An electrician who refused to use green and yellow earthing wire because it reminded him of Norwich City has been fined.
John Sarjeant, from Hollesley, appeared at Ipswich magistrates charged with breaching health and safety regulations by failing to make appliances safe.
The life-long Ipswich...
I am reminded of the guy who, after years of development and a lot of investment, came up with a device for stopping spam on fax machines. For those who don't know/remember, this was indeed a problem as unlike email spam, it used your paper to print it. The Dragons pointed out that he had missed...
I was a truck driver and, like most, I liked my own company. When I was on agency work, I would sometimes get a second man to help with the lifting. Most were okay, or at least bearable, but I did chuch one guy's phone out of the window once, and I am not a confrontational sort of guy.
At least...
Just to put the other side: Negotiating with tradesmen, or even trying to sort out the best of two or three quotes is hard. I get my car serviced every year; if I don't like what they do, I can choose from a dozen competitors and mates in the pub will likely point me to a good one.
Most of us...
Back in the 60s I had a housemate who was an electrician. He got a job with a firm that was part way through re-wiring several hundred council houses. On his first morning he was 'given' an apprentice and told what needed doing; as soon as the boss left, one of the old hands warned him that...
That's because of the way big users are charged. They don't have a ;little wheel whizzing round, but a big ole meter recording the power they are drawing. There will be a point at which the charges go up and they want to avoid that. The factory I used to work in had a 120 tonne power press. They...
That's true - when I looked at renewal, I found that some suppliers would not be able to use the smart meter. Ovo were the cheapest anyway so it didn't matter.
I have been doing it on t'interweb for years with BG, but the meter is in the garage and I forgot sometimes. Hey Ho - gotta keep up...
Thanks guys - confirms my own thoughts. The cupboard is fairly small and most likely added after the meter was fitted. My guess was that he just didn't fancy the job - maybe was running late, and used it as an excuse.
No replies yet that are actually helpful then.
I have a smart meter and it is fine.
Whoever originally wired the house before they bought it did the job. My question is - Should she be concerned that the CU and the meter (and presumably the main fuze) are on the same back board. TBH - I...
My daughter wanted a smart meter but when the fitter came he said he couldn't fit it because "the meter is on the same board as the CU".
I don't have a picture and she lives 120 miles away, but I do know that it is all in her understairs cupboard.
Is this something to be concerned about?
A point from the other side:
When, as an ordinary householder, you ask for quotes, it's very hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff. It's a few years back now but I remember when I had my house rewired. I got three quotes - one guy arrived in a smart new van; insisted on putting covers on...
