Now you can take the report to any other electrician to quote for remedial work.
All codes should be accompanied by a relevant regulation number… and fit into one of the statements pre listed on the report.
Are the other coded items just as fictitious?
The photograph of the plug does not show clearly that the earth pin is part sleeved at the angle taken.
I wonder why a counterfeiter would invent a new way of manufacturing a plug pin where they could just copy the right way…. And to make such an change that it is an obvious tell that it is...
Its a 2 core cable... .the earth pin of the plug isnt connected to anything... It could be a plastic pin.... it doesnt matter. Its there to open the shutters in the socket... nothing else.
Is there a double-insulated symbol on the controller anywhere? square within a square?
the live feed can be on either of the traveller wires... so terminals 2 or 3 at switch 1
the switched live can come off any traveller at any switch.... so any grey or black core.... Except the same one used for the live feed.
as the switches are operated, the feed crosses over between the two...
The problem is that AFDDs have been a knee-jerk reaction to a tower block fire… supposedly caused by an arc in a kitchen appliance.
They rushed them through to regs without fully investigating these shortfalls.
It was the same with RCDs. They thought an rcd mainswitch would be fine, but no...
Yes. Sorry. You’re spot on.
Extract from OSG below.
However, to me, these property types are for living accommodation.
Industrial machines may be the laundry rooms of these properties, but not where people live.
If the machines are tripping the AFDDs, then maybe they are not required...
Looking at the picture on #3, I expect it was plastic clips that needed a screwdriver to prise open… maybe not secure now if bent.
Superglue would fix that
We can leave the other thread as “electrician hasn’t given me the report” problem and have this one to discuss what’s actually cropped up on the report…
You don’t actually know what’s on it as you haven’t got it…. Was it just the tester saying you needed a new board without explaining why...
The UK plug has the BS mark on it… not CE
The light control box has the CE mark. Stick a different plug on it, and it can be sold in Europe.
The plug is fine
The control box is fine (or was until the sealed cover was taken off)
There is nothing wrong with this being sold in the UK.
AFDDs are usually put in at the source, at the fuse board and would cover all circuits.
If AFDDs are specified, then it won’t matter if it’s an isolator, or a plug/socket… it should still be fitted.
Can you give us the make and model number of the AFDD you normally fit?
You have asked for an EICR. He should give you it with the codes as is.
If he doesn’t give you the report, you shouldn’t pay him.
You can then get any other electrician to rectify those issues, who will then issue a certificate to cover their work. This is then kept with the unsatisfactory...
Spot on....
Maybe i should delete it? ;)
OP is a domestic installer, not a DIYer, according to profile.... so maybe just overthinking the switch wiring.
Hi Jon....
Is it right you're newly qualified?
Its just the questions youve asked (this and the summer house thread) are both fairly simple things to work on.
If so, then all good. Youre just checking before working in someones house.
Adding to a ring.... youve got to keep it as a ring...
