I tried to persuade the customer to go down that route, but he wasn’t interested. Just wants its fixed. Shame. I agree. This person is probably doing the same elsewhere right now. He’s brickwork is good though..,

Add a socket! Given the choice of 2 boards I opened up the one with the RCD first.

A right Badger - I like that - might use when talking to the customer. And yes - it is a right Badger. Laminate floors, terrible access from above. Jeez.

Thanks Lucien and all. I’ll be back there today. I’m determined to find the origin of that feed and disconnect it. Yes it is fed from a 15A 3036, which starts at 2.5mm but somewhere steps down to 1.0mm. The old 3036 board is almost back to back with this new board, and I did manage to get a...

Turn mcb on, twisted 3 core to top of mcb becomes live, as does the bar it connects into (normally a neutral bar). Hey presto. Everything works, until some meddling electrician comes along...

Nightmare. Cannot find the other end (the supply) at all. Must be buried in a wall or a JB under a floor. Maybe I'll find it tomorrow. Floorboards up tomorrow. Polarity? The grey to the bottom of the MCB is permanent live. This then makes the neutral bar top right an....erm...ehhh...'live...

How Old is Copper Clad Aluminium etc

Blimey. I think the house has been wired in medium rare steak. I'll try and get a slither photo of an offcut. Also apparently an EICR was done prior to selling so I'm trying to get my mits on that. Thanks all. I'm going to bed.

You are making me start to doubt myself now ....... Yes - two red meter tails - horrible - I'd prefer two blue :).

Very Interesting - Thank You. The accessories are all vintage MK but I have not removed any to date. I'll let you know what I find if I get the chance.

How Old is Copper Clad Aluminium etc

Thank you. I was thinking early seventies. The adjacent lighting circuits are 1.5/1.0 copper so it seems a strange mix. Partial rewire or what was available at the time. Who knows. I do know that I had a real struggle getting those conductors (neutrals) back into their terminations just because...

OK - another vote for IR not being too bad. Aluminium is definitely on the inside though, you could scrape the copper of with a knife to see it. Not too easy to get a photo of!

Interesting response. I thought it was a bit low. Truth is there are other reasons to rewire anyway, such as not enough sockets and they are all in skirting boards, the floor area for a single ring is a little too big according to guidance as it goes over 3 floors and includes the kitchen, it's...

How Old is Copper Clad Aluminium etc

Hi All, I'm part way through testing an empty old house with all sorts of older wiring and a 3036 board in order to work out whats needed. First circuit is copper clad aluminium ring final. I measured one of the strands and have it as 7/036. Question - am I wrong to assume is imperial? I do...
