    Commercial/Industrial Monitored Security Systems

Hi Folks, Does anybody here work for or can recommend a reputable security supply & installation company? I'm looking for a reputable company that can install a complete monitored system including door access, cctv and intruder alarm. It is for a large company based in Stoke on Trent...

    Max amps from UK socket

Maybe he intends to give Dyson a run for his money, he's gonna weld 3 hoovers together. :P

    Max amps from UK socket

I agree, I have a 180amp mig that popped fuses if I used it for too long a period of time. I've now hard wired it on its own dedicated circuit rated on a 16mcb and its been no trouble since. The standard touches are rubbish! the euro ones are definitely worth investing in.

    Max amps from UK socket

In my opinion you will be fine using this welder the socket circuit for this job then. Gas less mig welding isn't as neat as using argon. But if you intend to dress up the welds after you should be just fine.

    Max amps from UK socket

Is the seller a welding supply specialist? Because welders have what's called a "duty cycle" this means that you should only operate the welder at full power for a certain time ratio. This ratio depends on the power setting of the welder. Below is the spec sheet for the welder you have posted...

    Max amps from UK socket

As Richard said ^^^^^ You won't have a problem using this welder on a domestic socket circuit. Though as he mentioned, using it for a long time on full power would not be recommended. 150amp single phase mig-welders are not much use for any sort of long term fabrication work, you won't be able...

What was the best pice of career advice you've been given and what did you do with it.9

Another which is probably quite common but served me well over the years:- "Prepare for the worst, hope for the best and usually you'll find its somewhere in between".

What was the best pice of career advice you've been given and what did you do with it.9

The one piece of advise I got when I was young and still use to this day is:- Always look for the simplest way of solving a problem, spend a minutes thought save an hour's time. I teach my apprentices this and they often look at me with "oh yeah... never thought of that.." "people are often...

What was the best pice of career advice you've been given and what did you do with it.9

    1. It's easy to give when you've got plenty, so make sure you get plenty to give. 2. Become a taxman or undertaker, you'll never be out of work or out of pocket. 3. Make sure you're offering a favour which favours your pocket. 4. Charity begins at home. 5. Make money from the fruits of other's...

    16mm tails with 100A fuse ???

That's just showing off, is the screw driver there for show or did you use it to disconnect? :D You are too particular! I'm lazy these days, I normally just snip off the cables at the point they terminate or if I'm full of energy, get the battery drill out set on high speed with a flat screw...

Electrician Jobs Installing a secondary consumer unit in the garage??

I assume this is an arc welder? It will most likely require hard wiring into an appropriate rated isolator. During use of the welder you may notice a voltage drop which will cause lights to annoyingly flicker. Long continued use will cost you dearly in your electricity bills. (just some...

Now this is taking the proverbial

I've seen these sorts of advertisements before. They are generally companies who have some maintenance contracts with councils/housing agents. They charge "multi skilled" personal out at £40-£50per hour whilst paying the worker just over minimum wage, to cover a certain area or number of...

Best looking class 2 light switchs

In my experience anything plastic which is chrome covered is rubbish, especially if it is often man handled. There are the plastic chrome looking pull cord switches but can't say I've come across anything else.

A different world - heath and safety nuts look away.

My god and we moan about the workmanship in this country! Though I have seen plenty of installs in similar states here in the UK. Hey who needs a tool box when you have a multi tool - called an axe. :D

Should EICR's be restricted to those qualified

The only way to govern is to make it mandatory. Unless criminal charges can be brought to those who don't follow the rules then it remains a "free for all". The scams are out to make money (priority), regulate (secondary). Stiffen the law and they may lose membership, though easier to regulate...
