Looks a squeeze, 240 swa thoughts.

This topic is outwith my experience, but it’s good to see/read knowledgeable people having a constructive dialogue about the possible issues and solutions. Just sayin’!

unpaid EICR, well over 6 months ago.

Op, honestly don’t understand why you are expending energy “ trying to void” the EICR. Assuming you are happy with the content/accuracy of your report, you are no better or worse off than for any report you have issued. Simply, the issue is you have not been paid for work you were contracted to...

    C&G Level 2 Diploma Query

Yep, the answer given ( in your book) appears to be wrong. It appears to suggest that the resistance of the long lead itself has not been removed from the measurement by zeroing the leads. So answer should probably be 1.63 - 0.89 ohms.

Totally stumped. Night Storage Heater tripping out MCB, but ok on daytime circuit.

Glad you found it, and as several had said, an unusual problem which would have stumped many electricians on initial investigation. Good too that we all get to find out the source of the problem - another possible issue to add to our list of “ it might be.....”!

Totally stumped. Night Storage Heater tripping out MCB, but ok on daytime circuit.

Jeeze guys, give the OP a break. If you don't want to help, then don't post. I guess we've all had electrical issues to deal with where the problem doesn't seem to fit normal solutions. Asking what to some might appear to be a question which has an obvious answer, doesn't mean the answer is...

Which domestic Consumer Unit and why?

The SBS boards are a dream to fit with compact rcbos and no functional earth or neutral tails to fill up the board. Like others however, I do worry about future spares availability! Just don’t understand why other manufacturers don’t follow the same design. Will it take a requirement for GFI...

Just doing an EICR today and in a quandary...

Were the fittings originally designed for 12v by any chance? Edit- cancel that, just saw the label on the fitting.

    Proteus rcbo Went bang

Is Hager crap too? Fitted a 6A rcbo (on a new circuit with satisfactory dead tests). On for about three minutes and it tripped. Pushed the toggle back up and .... bang. It can happen with all makes

    A daft question, or not....!

At last Richard, the answer! :) In the particular case which prompted the op, the SWA armour, the equivalent csa would have allowed it to be used as the cpc, but with the third core present, not required to.

    A daft question, or not....!

Nope! I know too. It was the very fact that the issue came up on site the other day, I’m keen to see how others respond to the question. Not meaning to be awkward ( well not a lot anyway!).

    A daft question, or not....!

Three core SWA installed as a new circuit on a TNS supply. Both ends of the SWA are earthed. Would you/ is it acceptable to include the armour in the R1+R2 calculation (ie in parallel with the core being used as cpc) or should measurement simply be between cores?

LEDs and dimmers - anyone anyone found the perfect match?

Thanks all for the feedback/suggestions. Interestingly, the dimmer I have used with Bell LEDs is on their list as a compatible dimmer - go figure. Think I’ll give the Varilight a go.

LEDs and dimmers - anyone anyone found the perfect match?

As per the title, I’m struggling to find a dimmer which does not cost the earth and works across a number of makes of LEDs. My regular wholesaler stocks Aurora dimmers and Bell LEDs, but I’m finding a regular flicker on lamps when using the two together. Someone will be able to recommend a...

My tool case has died.. which do you recommend?

Tech XL. As has been said, you won't have to buy another bag ( unless it gets nicked!). If money is tight the Magma is a good buy.
