UK 1mm cable to carry 13a

I have always hated that regulation, I don’t get why lighting and power circuits are different, if the CSA is suitable what is the problem? It also then raises questions over fans wired into lighting circuits. I feel it’s a way to push out the use of 1mm eventually, but I find it hard to...

    Another multimeter question.

    Another multimeter question.

Looks good definitely worth looking into. I tried to find the blanking grommets as a spare part before but couldn’t see them online

    Another multimeter question.

I was just looking at that, I wonder how they deal with the problem i am having where it thinks a probe is connected into the wrong port.

    Another multimeter question.

hey everyone, I am looking for some advice, I am thinking of getting a new DMM for industrial work, mostly motors, digital io, not much analog. Currently my go to is the fluke 87v, but when it gets wet the alarm for the leads comes up, I have cleaned it out a few times and it is still a problem...

    Water heater thermostat

So i have been having to odd problem when i used my electric boost for the hot water in my own house, sometimes it would not control the temperature correctly and effectively turn into a kettle. I don't use it too often so its never been a priority. My plan was to get a new thermostat tomorrow...

Problem with contactors wired in parallel

If you have checked the basics like connections and nothing else has changed before it caused a problem I would say you need a new contactor with the sam specs. Could be something has broken of inside and stopping the contactor to fully pull in.

    New multimeter, suggestions?

Then Fluke T5 is pretty good, i have had 2 in the last 15 years, the old one got caught damaged, completely my own fault. It depends what you are after, this had been great for most domestic work. As Tele said the resistance test is not great but if you are just belling out cables for...

    Quality Galv. Conduit

So i have a client who wants a room down with surface conduit, industrial look. No problems there, i am a little worried about the material tho. I feel the galv coating on some of the saddles and pipework isn't great these days. its fine for a workshop but when its going to be a feature like...

    Non-standard install advice

I would say what you are looking for is pretty standard. I haven’t worked out the size of cable required over that length but 10mm sounds about right. You may only need a 2 core cable depending on the earthing arrangement of the charging point

    Extractor fan with timer

Could be as simple as swapping 2 wires around. Hard to say without seeing it. If it is only wired with. Switch live and neutral there is not much you could do except maybe search the switch connection for a perm live and get a humidistat fan to control when it should turn off. I hope it’s a...

have you thought about tray or uni strut with lid? i think tray and one cable can be as quicker to fit as you need less fixings into the wall then just cable tie with the odd stainless tie incase of fite

    Electric Vehicle Charging training

I have also done the course and have no interest in pursuing this work unless asked by an existing customer. The grant basically covers the cost of the over priced charger and a lot of paper work is requireds to get this money back. I left the course with a bad taste in my mouth but looked into...

Fault finding easier in the dark!

Atleast you got access to the attic, i had a job once and the couple in their 60's must still have everything the ever bought in the attic. Good Find!

EICR report and £900 remedial work - seems fair?

I think having an honest and direct conversation with the electrician would be more positive than going on an online forum. There is a lot that of variables that is hard to cover on a message board.

    Lighting relays overheating. Solution?

£5each? ? I think I’ll stick with connector end stops between loaded contactors.
