    Earth Rod - Advice please!

I have found atool that does the job for that, but a decent SDS hammer drill to do the job is bigger than most of us have in our tool kit as the norm. It may need 10kg hammer in some types of ground as nothing smaller will sufffice. I would be interested to know from anyone what they have found...

    Customers trying to be chancers

£45 per point is not enough surely? If it's surface maybe and close by but to chase and replaster (which is what i do on most small jobs for sockets) i would normally quote £65-70 per point as chasing can be quite hard and time consuming work.

    Earth Rod - Advice please!

in response to the aesthetics of the small "besa" box type Earth Pit (if you can call it that) I am in the process of trying to find a better method and materials for Earth Rod installation, from bigger rod size to the machine man enough to install them in the ground. So far I have only come...

    business/accounts software

WOW ... that is pretty cheap, you must give me the name of your accountant. I am expected to input all the data into a spreadsheet, compile all reciepts in date and month order and he still charges me £700 ... I know it is a lot but that seemed to be the average rate where I am. I am also...

    Electrical Safety Register

Would have if I had more time to spend trawling through all the threads. Posted it in the heat of the moment. I am now looking at previous posts to see how much of a feeling other people have about this subject. Plus it was my last point that I thought should be made clear as I feel this is the...

Fuse box installed for £150 what!!!

Understood, but it does no good referring to other nationalities either. The trade is being undermined by every (good or bad) electrician who has to or is willing to accept lower rates. I understand why people do it though! I don't think the industry schemes (otherwise known as 'scams') have...

Fuse box installed for £150 what!!!

I think that statement is a bit harsh considering a lot of Polish are very good tradesmen and work to high standards. I hate it when everyone tars every bad tradesmen as a "Pole" ... Remember there are eastern european people from several countries working here. There are exceptions to every...

Fuse box installed for £150 what!!!

I think a few people on here have nailed it on the head by saying "the customer dictates the price" very true but this should not be happening. This industry needs to be controlled the same way the Gas industry is. No one should be doing work for peanuts. Recently I have quoted for several jobs...

    Rubbish products/materials

Just been reading this thread. I have come across many products and materials that at first glance look good but end up being a total waste of money. One thing I have used recently is 'patress' screws (otherwise known as raised head machine screws) from Thorsman ! ... the heads are total C**P...

Fuse box installed for £150 what!!!

A bit too much copper showing on the connections - poorly terminated in my opinion. Apart from that quite neat but cannot believe this is a board change but a new install when all prep work has been done first. If you are doing the same layout and same make and same cable layout then they could...

Hour & Day rates should I advertise them ?

Thanks for replies. I will rethink how I will do my charging. I think it is best to price each job after doing a survey, but someone will always want to know hourly/day rates but hopefully it will all balance out in the end. I have phoned around a few local Electricians to get an idea of the...

Hour & Day rates should I advertise them ?

Thanks Telectrix, This is what I have in mind. I was thinking along the lines of £40 amount for first hour then £25 amount for every hour thereafter (or whatever is the average local rate). Problem is if you have job that is going to last for longer than a day or two then how do you go about...

Hour & Day rates should I advertise them ?

Hi to you all, This is my first post but I have been reading for a while all of the other subjects and posts. Just wanted to get opinions on whether it's a good thing to advertise prices and rates. I know it is a difficult subject to cover but when someone rings up and asks "how much do you...
