Mobile Homes - routing cables etc

Switch gear may be in an OMB position or directly behind an OMB position in a cupboard. Look to see how mobile home is fed. It may well be fed from switch gear near the home i.e. in the garden or even neighbours garden. Might be a SWA cable entering the mobile home in ducting which you might be...

Test failed due to missing RCD

    - The whole idea of a part RCD spilt board, was so that the lights remained on for safety reasons when RCD operated. Then later it was deemed that dual RCD boards would be fitted as standard in domestic properties to increase safety. Literally, you are going back to the dark ages when only one...

Test failed due to missing RCD

Ok, so an RCD has been fitted instead of the existing DP isolation switch. So, it has now been deemed safer. But...it still doesn't comply. When RCD operates, the whole installation is switched off. Now, by todays standards is that correct? Solved one problem created another.

    Recessed Halogen Transformer Ceiling Light

Thanks for response guys. I did suggest replace all 5 with LED GU10.s. After advice from here, I fitted some at another house which required 72mm dia holes. At this particular house, existing holes are 50mm dia. The one that I looked at, was near to a joist. I'm now thinking, new hole will have...

    Recessed Halogen Transformer Ceiling Light

Evening guys, A friend of mine has had these halogen ceiling recessed lights for about 17 years. Anyone know where to obtain a new transformer from? Would they still be available? If not, alternative would be new LED fittings hopefully without transformers. Many thanks

LED possible strip lighting above worktops (under wall units)

Thanks Murdoch. No doubt an obvious answer. OEM's cables? What does OEM mean? Not done these before. The distance between driver and first LED lights is depth of wall cupboard. From same driver to second LED lights 6-7 metres. Instructions suggest stranded better than solid cables. I had used...

I had to take a second look when I seen this

I knew of one successful attempt years ago. It only came to light due to change of ownership. I think it was a meter change due to age. Previous people had removed the whole meter board and bent it forward including the lead service cable! They then drilled through the meter board from the back...

Is it OK to terminate switched fused spur with 13A socket?

Re worktop span. Yes you would need additional support. Job I've just been on similar situation. They used 2 x large 90 degree wall brackets fixed directly underneath worktop. If no support, worktop will bow within a short time.
