Very strange car fault - Citroen C2 - fuse box? BSI? BSM? Please help

perhaps you should try a test like a Parasitic loss and test by removing each fuse in turn and see if the problem goes away and things spring into life. One circuit might be short circuiting (temperature related or vibration) and performing the test when the car is “dead” may provide some info...

    Lighting set up (pir/photocell/switch)

Usually (at least for me) PIRs come with a built in photocell and this can be set ( covers case where different levels of light on different PIRs). Also although you don’t want it , my system switches on the lights if you flick the switch off and on quickly. my system uses a control box which...

    R2 lead replacement?

I know it might be a silly question - but I see they sell 50 meter R2 leads for £50-£90 . what is the disadvantage of using an extension lead by putting in a plug with only the earth wire connected and use the earth terminal on the cable plug as the other end. I realise that you would need to...

    Replacing a single socket

As a quick safety measure , put them into Wago connectors ( separated by those joined!) . That makes it slightly safer and easy to work with when the problem is fixed

Wiring outside light off existing extractor fan supply.

You didn’t mention if the existing feed is RCD protected already. The extractor fan might have a junction box in the bathroom which may fall within the zone system depending on distance from the bath/shower. Proximity to the shower/ bath introduces constraints as does running the cable through...

Selv circuit - short circuit - bulbs blown

The transformer was fine as was the 230v feeder ( didn’t blow a 2A). Also when I separated the wires at the fault, and replaced the bulbs all is ok.

Selv circuit - short circuit - bulbs blown

Garden lighting 12V AC from transformer wired with 2 wire and extension cables ran 2 LED lights in parallel. Unfortunately water and mud managed to cause a short circuit. The two lamp bulbs blown were further away from the transformer than the fault. Q1. Is this expected? Q2. Is there an easy...

    Bedroom lights without earths

Remember that while they will point out the need for an RCD and hence cpc as they are working to up to date standards, the installation was correct at the time of installation and as far as I know should be listed as needs to be done but not failed. just my uneducated opinion. I believe that...

    Voltage Detector

The regs say a proving unit or a near by other circuit. I test mine in a live socket near where I am working. The regs say GS38 compliant and that’s what I use but luckily you can remove the tip covers when the tips don’t reach the terminals e.g. Wago connectors and possibly some sockets...

continuity tester and proving unit also required?

The conversation has fired off a conversation I had some time ago. Someone stated that it is difficult to get a qualified person to sign of the work. I can understand that they would prefer to do the work to earn the money. As this is a “legal “ requirement for some work , the need for a must do...

I have one that someone put in a 3a fused central heating system and ran motor of shower mixer. This was in the cupboard in the upstairs. I stuck a label on it in yellow stating only for 3a use. luckily my wife has an advanced C&G in electronics ......and I have now replaced it with an RCD.

UK Why does my RCD keep tripping?

There is some things that might add to an understanding. The main RCD should have a different spec to more local ones. This means that the local one catches the problem. The lights flickers are caused by voltage fluctuations in the supply coming into the house and if the voltage goes high then...
