Took a look at a block of flats today that has a TNC-S supply. Each flat is fed by a 2-core mineral insulated cable. The earth and neutral are then combined again using a henley block prior to entering the consumer unit. Has anyone come across this before?
Simple question. When installing a dual supply CU for a customer with economy 7 will you now be installing SPDs on both supplies? Yes, the heaters are resistive loads but they also contain electronics.
What are your thoughts on placing the RCD prior to the meters?
Supply head > RCD > Meters > Switched Fuse > Sub main
I know that technically that's the meter companies side, however, I have little choice given the split of the three phases occurs before the meters. The other option would be...
I assume that in my instance it is okay to have the RCD before the switched fuses given some of the phases have been split with henleys to provide 5 supplies?
So I bought one. It's possible but is a VERY tight fit. I can get the MFT, leads, a socket tester in and a voltage tester in. The proving unit and wander lead however - no chance.
Sorry to hijack this thread but in a similar situation. We have a TT three-phase supply, going into 5 switched fuses that feed 4 flats + landlord supply via VIR cables in a metal conduit. All final circuits are RCBOs.
Should I insist that an upfront RCD is added? If so, how would you configure...
Quick update - trading standards have been in touch for more details. NICEIC has confirmed someone has been assigned to the case but I have yet to hear from them.
I forgot to mention this in my initial post - the flat that had recently had the CU upgrade had a new earth running from the flat...
So was back at the property today (yes, Sunday). Sunk an earth rod and got a reading of 14.2 which I must admit surprised me. Power is back on for the property I was working on. Two flats have turned the power back on themselves but want me to do an EICR and connect their earth. The fourth flat...
The problem was that the front garden is owned by the basement flat who need to give permission to install the rod - which we've now had.
In the flat I was dealing with well... there was no bonding despite the EICR saying there was.
So to complicate things further the suppliers head had been...
