    2394 exam

I took my 2394 and 2395 the same afternoon a few weeks back (and passed) all done on a computer. Written yes but typed in boxes. There was a drawing to name the relevant parts.

How to check if a fuse feeds a ring final or 2 radial circuit

For clarity most multimeters don't offer a low enough continuity reading. To know the arrangement of the wiring we need to measure to fractions of an ohm reliably. Based on the readings we can then calculate the location of each point in the circuit based on the resistance. Most general...

Insulation Resistance test with 12v transformers

That's thje normal work around. test L&N connected together against Earth. No risk to the transformers then.

    Insulation Resistance Testing

Good idea to test new cable. I haven't but think I might. Re IR tests I prefer to test each circuit. For the time it takes to test 6 or 8 circuits its my preference. But in a normal size domestic even a parallel test I'd expect to get a sensible reading never seen 2meg or close to it unless a fault.

    A Moral issue?

The smokers will likely live shorter lives and so save resources otherwise used in their old age. Maybe suggest a timer system or motion sensor so they shut off when not needed.

    Competition no 2

Neither the plumber or his young mate where prepared to admit they'd plumbed the water mains into the gas feed. But the cooker did look pretty when the gas hob was turned on.

    Tv above an open fireplace?

Its easy for us in these colder climates to forget that these TVs are also sold in countries that are much hotter than here. I'd check the specs for the TV and see what the operating temperature range is. You may find its quite high and the space above the lit fire doesn't reach that. If it is...

Disabled access to a fuse versus non fashionable location?!

Sounds like we're trying to solve a problem that's not a problem. If a fuse blows in the plug of an appliance like that. There is a fault in the appliance. You would never replace the fuse without investigating the issue and ensuring the fault is resolved. Therefore for this person access to the...

    Maintenance - claiming VAT back?

Of course the other option is to start your own limit company. Asset purchases can then be offset from your profits. And you can claim other expenses. Plus options on Dividend payouts as well as PAYE.

    Shower isolator

As others have said if its BS7671 compliant then you can't issue a code, even a C3. I'd probably verbally suggest an isolator and email that as well as a recommendation but not include it in the EICR

    Maintenance - claiming VAT back?

If the company buys them they are owned by the company and on their asset list. If they sell them on they have to charge VAT on the sale. They could buy them. Rent them to you at a token amount and then sell them later as used for much less than new....

    Apprentice japes and responsibilities.

Nice story. Work needs to be fun but it has to be fun for all. If fun is at one persons expense its not fun. its bullying. I've been fortunate to have worked with a number of youngsters and by and large they have all been nice people and I've done my best to pass on what I can help them get along.

    Any good ideas?

I have a cooker hood fan over a cooker with no easy external access. So I ducted the extractor outlet and added a fan on the exit to assist with the flow. Ran the fan power back outside the duct and fed it from the cooker hood fan so they run together.

    Any good ideas?

Does seem to make sense to try and use the current flue for the extraction. Is it very sooty? will that fall back down into the extractor unit? Could an extractor be mounted above the lintel and knock back into the flue?

Portable tool station electrics, Saftey advice help

If the CJY-2204 is the one off EBAY then I note it switches neutral not Live. Also unless you disable the currently selected channel that device is still live so its not a perfect disabler of the equipment. I'd have thought a 4 way rotary selector doing a manual selection of the device in use...

DNO response to request for isolator

I had my DNO upgrade my Fuse and then my supplier to upgrade my tails and had them fit an isolator (supplied by me) in the new tails. They were happy to do that.

Using a cavity wall gap for cables

Yes I can see the current CCU cables come into tge cavity and some go down to under floor and some come up to 1st floor and loft. There are a few spider webs in there and sadly a few cacooned flys.

Using a cavity wall gap for cables

Luckily I can see the whole of my route from top to bottom. Luckily these brickies seem to have been a little better.
