HELP my company has signed off work I haven’t done in my name

Sadly I've know far too many qualified and respected sparks who struggle with this if it isn't exactly as the standard.

UK How do you use a Megger avo to read 4 to 20 milliamp signals

I will put my hand up here and say I find auto ranging and 4-20mA don't mix. Of course it depends on what you're measuring and how fast the changes are, but even so I've managed to take multiple readings at a controller and misread... say 165uA as 16.5mA. Fortunatly I have several meters with...

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

That was a rental property, with previous tenants diy wor. The actual call out was due to a faulty bathroom fan, IIRC when Ambulance creww attended a call. There are about 17 cables there and once an adaptable box with Din rail and terminals was fitted the nasty corner went away. As it happens...

Dodgy trade pictures for your amusement! - 1 Million Views!

We fitted a dado trunking alond 2 sides of a big room: Video cables in the top, audio cables in the middle & data/control cables in the bottom. "ELV only" stickers applied every couple of metres or so. Above the tunking was the existing 2 ring finals of metal clad sockets/20mm steel tube. All...

Henley Block between meter and main switch

OOps sorry not a regular on here and didn't realise it was an old thread. I've always phoned before cutting seals and they've always said to go ahead and to call back for an update and reseal.

Maybe because they they get it wrong so many times... I built a control panel 2.1m tall, exactly according to design. it was installed exactly as designed as were loads of other services. Complicated dual tariff arrangement with four main switches.

I had a job with 3 tariffs in a rental property where they insisted on a single point of isolation, my solution was a large CU: 12+14 Way High Integrity Fuseboard 2x100A RCD without Knockouts | Mastertrade -...

    Undersized low voltage transformer?

So you moved into a rental property with a potentially hazardous installation. Get the landlord/managing agent involved and let them put it right.

    Thoughts on new builds........

A friend moved into a new build and found that the gap under the bedroom stud wall when the floors were loaded with furniture was so big the wall could be pushed over the carpet on gripper bar. Builders solution... expanding foam... including all over the carpet.

Earth Leakage Clamp Meter...Why do I need one?

In my experience 50% of RCD tripping is to an earth other than the CPC and I don't think I've ever put a clamp on an earth cable while looking for such a fault.

The use of plastic wall plugs for the 18th....

Yes I most certainly do and stupidly made a mistake when I ordered the last batch. I wrote 1000 on the order against each of 4 sizes along with various sizes of screws and no one questioned the quantity. The delivery was made, the invoice sent and account paid, all 3 being done in their usual...

Shower EICR Code- 9.5kW- 40amp mcb!. De rate MCB to 32 or rewire cable to 10mm

If it's quoted at 230V then at 240V it's 43A and 250V it's 45A Even worse if it's quoted at 220V (which is often still the case with some imported kit) then at 240V it's 47A which exceeds the 1.45 factor
