    Have bypassed the junction box by using alternative connectors and the problem remains. It must be something to do with the current coming from the lighting ring (now embedded in the wall!)

    Sorry, I actually put a junction box in the mains lighting ring and ran a spur that way so I do have a neutral. Only thing to do is to check the connections in the junction box which is behind the wall unit. All other connections checked and double checked

    Yeah I looked at low voltage. Don’t think you can get filament bulbs at that low voltage though? Standard galvanised pipe a no go? I’ve seen a few fittings with a decent ip rating. Thanks
