Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

Such a risk assessment is super easy and super quick.

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

I can see that there is an argument for SPD on say, mains powered linked smoke alarms (and medical, alarms etc). But you are far more likely to have a power failure which renders smoke alarm system inoperable than you are a surge. So for the SPD requirement to make sense, a UPS needs to be...

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

People need to back up their data on computers, phones etc. The loss of data angle is rather tenuous with common place cloud backup. Don't rely on surge protection.

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

Yes. I personally went through a re-wire and new CU recently (post amendment 2). Made conscious decision that SPD was BS !

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

There is a huge big difference between optional. recommended & mandatory. SPDs remain purely optional and are only relevant based on a risk assessment. In this country, surge risk remains extremely low, is completely overrated, and protection is by and large completely unnecessary...

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

In what circumstances does the DNO own the meter box? It is normally owned by the consumer And good luck to Johnny gogo gadget pursuing a claim against electrician that failed to recommend SPD....that's just not going to happen.

EV - after few pointers please

Well if its a new build, then its a new connection. There is no real cost difference between single and three phase connection so may as well order 3 phase. When you order the connection, they ask what it is for (new build, 3Ph EVSE etc) and put it on the quote and job, so you have...

Are all EV charge point installers this bad?

A couple of things. Firstly the efixx video about putting equipment in meterbox that says you cannot do it is wrong and misleading. There is no legislation that prohibits you putting equipment inside the meterbox. Now if there is a space issue in future, then that's a conversation between...

Unregistered landlords meter swapped by builder

Sounds like fraud & energy theft - one for the DNO and the Police - let them sort it out.

New kitchen install over existing wet underfloor heating

Good point...just going by personal experience on best practice having been through some renovation projects. However, thickness doesnt really matter as even if its as thin as, say, 50mm, with use of a thermal camera and careful grinding, it will be possible to create a channel to take some low...

New kitchen install over existing wet underfloor heating

Screed will be 100mm thick, and UFH pipes will be at the base of that and 15mm diameter. So no reason why you can chase down 50 - 70mm or so to accommodate new cables. Also with use of a thermal camera you may well be able to get between the UFH pipes.

Need advice removing flickering from AC LED spotlight, if it only has one sine wave available.

Whoa....you are making this rather complicated. Personally I would use a Philips Hue Bridge with motion detector and switch accessories along with Hue LED bulbs. Simple.

50mm duct & hockey stick - new supply

Can you point me in direction of slip coupling? Outside diameter of ducting is 62mm and same for flared end of hockey stick is 53mm.

How to obscure load signatures that smart meters record cheaply

What are you trying to achieve? Sound like you are trying to deceive the power company which is, err, dodgy.

50mm duct & hockey stick - new supply

The documentation from SSEN specified size of ducting (min 50mm), but silent on spec for hockey stick. A meter box / hockey stick supplier said 38mm hockey stick will be fine but I went larger anyway. BUT just need to understand how to join duct to hockey stick as the SSEN spec is silent...

50mm duct & hockey stick - new supply

Laying ducting and hockey stick as preparation for new 3-phase supply which will be installed after front drive is done. How is the hockey stick joined to the duct? I was told by Polypipe technical that that end of the duct slides into flared end of the hockey stick and forms a tight joint...

External wall downlighters & conduit cable

Conduit through box? Well yes that is one option but it would appear that fabrication of a plate + gasket / modification of light fitting required. Trying to minimise this overhead but struggling.

External wall downlighters & conduit cable

Need to run conduit on a wall with break out points for wall mounted down lighters along the way. But struggling to find downlighters that mount on conduit junction boxes or support conduit ingress / egress points. Most downlighters seem to cater for rear cable entry only. After some...

MK Grid Plus Frame & Captive Screws !

Ordered some extension studs. Quite pricey. Cheaper to use screws of correct length. Would prefer it if MK didn't make the screws captive !
