While recovering from my 2008 business losses I worked as delivery driver for a well known courier company. We had several elderly people on our lists for whom we had to automatically return goods to the sender. It turns out that the computer age is not necessarily good for everyone. They sat...
I do this for most of my CU's.
I like the BG kit, they provide a nice plastic trim for the rectangular knock-out in the back. Saves my file for another day.
For the time it takes to resize holes and screw in glands I've cut and mounted the CU on 4 battens, knocked out the back hole/s and already...
Please do NOT look at the Domestic Electrical Installer courses offered by numerous 'colleges'. They are NOT worth the money. I know, cos' I did one.
I started in 1980 and left some years later to make my fortune.
Having made and lost that fortune (Thank you 2008) I am back again with this ugly...
Ooh! I'd love the opportunity to see some of the stuff you're doing.
I'm recently back into the fold and to be honest, I find a lot of the current day "Sploot Ribbit Tweedle Blarb" really confusing.
The conformity, regulations and stuff are simply look-up, but the calculations we now have to do...
Apprentices pay better attention when their nuts are (pretend) wired to a consumer unit main switch in it's off position.
They pay every bit as much attention to every word you say as they do every single person who goes anywhere near that switch.
Oh! the games we played.
I think we'd get time...
What I've learned in my short time here...
1. Don't ask stupid questions - You'll get ridiculed
2. Don't ask serious questions - You'll get a ridiculed
3. Don't ask a question where you answer it yourself in the question - You'll get ridiculed
4. Don't answer a question with a stupid answer -...
I have room enough in my pockets and pouches for all my wago's and tools etc.
Before I go up a ladder or into a loft I take a few moments to consider exactly what tools I will need (and some contingencies) then empty my pockets and take just what I need.
I had a friend in the army some (many...
I've been on a few jobs where a previous installer has chased in some 25mm trunking instead of the 25mm oval conduit that I would normally use. I don't like capping as it's a bugger to send new cables through.
Just wanted peoples opinion of best practice when it comes to mechanical protection...
If you're installing sockets in a bedroom here's a nice trick to earn you some brownie points, install double sockets with USB chargers in them, they'll love you for it. Lots of people charge their phones etc overnight next to the bed.
These LAP ones are quite tidy LAP 13A 2G SP Switched Socket...
For £288 a year you have peace of mind and little chance of something biting you in the A. Several of the more recent jobs I've done would more than cover that fee on their own. Also, my Father taught me something I've carried all my life after saying to him one day "It's never happened yet."...
I did a very similar job for a friend of my wife. Extended the ring final from an existing socket to add two double sockets across the room. I had to take floor boards up, cut into skirting and drill through joists. It looked easy enough but it does tend to take longer when the customer says...
Welcome to the chicken coop.
You don't say what C&G certs you have, are they IT or Electrical related?
There are some quite clever chickens in here and a few cocks, but the less said about that the better. ;)
Good Lord! That's fantastic.
Spoon, do you hire out that magic all seeing ball of yours? I have a job estimate to do where I can't get into the property until the boarding is taken down (tenant vandalism and police evidence scene). Would be great to get a peek behind that door. :p
Please excuse my ignorance (I have lots of it to spare) but what exactly does this course give me? I'm not sure I even understand your statement above about taking samples and carrying out non-licenced work.
Does it offer some sort of qualification or certificate I can produce?
