TP Fan Isolator in Shower Room

The 3A fuse rating got snagged on an NIC inspection a few years ago, when wiring new builds now we always wire the bathroom lighting on its own circuit protected by a 3A MCB, I'm sure that I've seen an isolator with a fuse carrier hat someone manufactures though.

    CompEx renewal help please

Hi Lee, do you mean HOTA was crap or Roxby at Catch? I often wondered about the standard of instruction, because I guess it can vary massively!

    CompEx renewal help please

Hi Timbo, thanks for the help, it looks like you deal with it all the time judging by your profile pic! Were doing it at the Catch facility near Grimsby, decent set up and local to the industry around there. Out of interest, where do you work? We don't deal with CompEx all the time, just when...

    CompEx renewal help please

Afternoon everybody, I'm about to start my CompEx renewal tomorrow and was hoping someone could advise me on the minimum glanding requirements for Ex d,e and n. The main reason for asking is that you have to use the minimum requirements on the course, whereas that isn't something we do on the...

    British Standards not highly regarded

Have those sparks worked over here Kenny? I always bought we were belt and braces making our standard better than other countries. But having not worked in any other places yet, I don't know.

That tallies with the drawing Timbo, I shall look at the barriers tomorrow and report back, if I'm not too upset at missing the rugby!

Should I start up on my own?

I take my hat off to people making the jump to being self employed, so if you go for it, good luck! I often wonder where I'd have gone work wise if the company I work for had sent me down the road when I came out of my time, looking back it would have been a bit of a blessing to get out and...

    Intrinsically Safe blue cable

The equipment is mainly pressure sensors and level switches. The pressure sensor is a Siemens product with a solenoid cap on basically. The drawings show me that the field end is made safe within the equipment rather than connected to earth and the other end in the panel goes to the IS earth...

    Intrinsically Safe blue cable

I'm asking because I have to connect some at work Westy, I have my CompEx, but I've never worked on IS really, in fact, at all. I'm just being cautious really, I will see when I get the panel drawings tomorrow, it's been on my mind since I glanced down at the cable after I cut it today!!

    Intrinsically Safe blue cable

Evening all, could someone enlighten me please as to what the function is of the small screen wire in an IS cable and where it should be terminated please. Bit short, but that's all really!! Cheers.

    Smart home rewire

Id just put conduits in the walls and mark up where they are on the floor above for the switches on the ground floor and you won't even have to bother about it on the first floor if you have an accessible loft, then you will be covered either way. Unless it's a plug and play kind of system with...

    Wiring a container

In the past I have had a 2 inch box section welded straight down the middle for the lighting, make sure whoever does the welding knows what he's doing and doesn't blow holes in the roof!

phone and tv in new builds

It's the black plugs they put in the wall that really peeve me! I know it's for their ladders but.....come on!!

phone and tv in new builds

Other people may do this differently, but this is what I do. All telephone points from each property to the main incoming BT duct on the ground floor, making sure correct spacings from power cables etc, for the TVs we usually run a shotgun twin coax to the agreed point with our sub contractor...

Done a job for a friend and they paid me with a spit pulsa 800e

I think you need to get your head out of you ar$e and realise the same situation happens all over the world! I'm Australia bound, so we shall see how it compares to over here.

2 gang 2 way, 1 each end of the room, odd behaviour

I shall throw my opinion in, incorrectly terminated JB would be my guess, or a switch obviously. Why not get the bloke on the blower who did the job and used the black, white and red cable?

Done a job for a friend and they paid me with a spit pulsa 800e

I'm not very fond of foreigners either, but anybody, from anywhere can be crap at their job, as well as being good at it. I've only worked with one polish lad and he was a proper grafter and decent lad to boot. One of those guns is on my list too!!

What would you have and why?

First of all I'd give Kevin McCloud a phone call and see if the Grand Designs lot are interested in filming it! I can't even begin to think of all the questions you have to ask, not only the electricians but other trades also. Are you employing a project manager or managing the project yourself...
