Electrician Jobs Smart switch wiring issues

Don’t suppose you took a photograph before you took the old switch off? Are you sure the black cables are neutrals? How were they connected at the old switch?

    Problem with 11KW Kiln

I am quite aware of that fact, I was reckoning the kiln would be rated for a nominal voltage of 230v (harmonised 400v for Europe). The OP does not state the voltage rating of the kiln only the voltage it is being supplied with. So I was reckoning it’s rated 11kW at 230v

When appliances were built to last!

But I did repair my mums 45 year old Kenwood Chef last year and the thing was designed to be repaired.. built like a battleship. I had to replace the sacrificial gear in the gearbox, thing came apart without issue, sourced new gear from e-bay reassembled and once agin it is churning out cakes...

When appliances were built to last!

Absolutely right, I had the misfortune to buy a Hotpoint Gas cooker about 2 years ago.. have had an engineers out to it 8 times so far. Even the engineers tell me they are rubbish cookers! Don’t think it will even make 5 years before being scrapped

    Lighting Sensors Not Working

How a PIR sensor works... When the sensor is idle, both slots detect the same amount of IR, the ambient amount radiated from the room or walls or outdoors. When a warm body like a human or animal passes by, it first intercepts one half of the PIR sensor, which causes a positive differential...

    Lighting Sensors Not Working

Yes, you have been sold the wrong thing, the sensor is looking for a moving heat source such as a human being, but will not detect the cold moving garage door.

    Problem with 11KW Kiln

I think the 50A breaker is a bit tight for an 11kw heating load. At 232v that works out to 47.5A. Only need a peak demand to pull the volts down a bit on the distributors transformer for the current to rise. May also be the tolerance on the rating of the breaker is in the minus!

    3-phase cable calculation

16mm is nowhere near big enough to handle the volt drop of a 1km cable route. Then the next problem will be how you overcome the earth loop impedance issue. I suggest you do some calculations to size the cable correctly and then look at how you are going to protect said cable against an earth...

Does such a relay exist? Or be built?

Schneider Zelio or Siemens Logo May be the solution. They are basically a programmable relay that will do what you need. You will need to write a little programme and download it to the unit but it’s simple enough to do.
