Our Solar PV installation is protected by a 30mA RCD in it's own CU which regularly trips during the morning inverter startup at this time of year (when the roof is persistently very wet). We have a transformerless grid-connected Power One Aurora inverter, and I...
had a problem with a not so common lamp and left it on-site when i wanted to take it to the wholesalers to get a replacement, I hope someone can identify the type from my description:
Looks like a ice hockey puck
Has 2 pin similar to a GU10's
More than 50mm in diameter
the version I had was...
I think the use of 6mm for 32A cooker circuits is historical.
In the days of BS3036 re-wireable fuses, only 6mm met the extra current carrying requirements associated with those fuses. The relevant reg nowadays is 433.1.101 (only got green book indoors, so maybe slightly different number in...
Anybody recommend soffit lights that fulfills the following criteria:
LED
No bigger than 80mm outside diamater
Driver etc. needs to be able to enter through the fittings hole - just in case it needs changing - no access above soffit once job is completed - got access at the moment until ceiling...
If your close to Dorset could sell you mine! Was too tall for the job I had in mind and Wylex wanted 20% restocking charge, so keeping it and see what turns up!
18 way with 3 RCDs.
Coming across this situation more and more recently.
Get rid of Economy 7 meter, change all off-peak outlets to 'peak' and install an electric radiator. There are loads to choose from but this is as good a place as any to start:

Link to Wylex catalogue. I recently got an 18 way board and found it wouldn't fit in the space I had! Wylex wanted 20% re-stocking charge, so waiting for another opportunity!
Does anybody here have issues with changing 12V lamps to GU10 LED lamps in the same fitting?
Obviously involves taking out the transformer, changing the lamp holder and putting the fitting back.
I only ask because:
a) The tin cans usually have a label that says 12V
b) The tin cans are not...
Prior to the 17th Ed, installing showers without RCD protection didn't violate any regs.
Best Practise Guide states that:
Absence of RCD protection for circuits of a location containing a bath or shower where satisfactory supplementary bonding is present - C3.
C2 if unsatisfactory/no...
No they don't, haven't got anything in place to monitor this. I know because I was late once and nothing happened, discussed with assessor and he said something about they haven't got authority to 'penalise'.
Could be!
eg. you have 5A lighting sockets and ring main sockets fixed together. So if the metal back boxes are earthed by their respective cpcs, from one position to the next will be 2 cpcs in parallel.
You could also measure r1, rn and r2 at a socket location, and you might get different...
Went to replace a 4 way Wylex consumer unit today. Easy peasy - wrong!
When dismantalling the CU was testing as I went, on ring r1 was approx 300 ohms, rn around 600 ohms. Spent some time trying to find the problem without raising floorboards etc. and the problem seemed to be between the CU...
Don't have the manual in front of me , but when measuring Zs and putting leads on phase and neutral display shows Error 4 until I put the earth lead on. If I stil get Error 4 then I start suspecting there is no earth!
If its your leads I would expect the zero'ing values to be changing. If...
Just replaced some kitchen light fittings with fittings that have GU10 led lamps, now when the lights are on and they are listening to Radio 4 the radio crackles! Radio is about 2 meters from lights! No dimmer involved.
Any ideas on how to fix. Just going to email Ledhut as well as that is...
