How is a generator earthed and given neutral?

This is what i am struggling to understand. Then how does the circuit work! Where is the neutral connected in the generator?! When normal electric is generated you have a star point and that is grounded thus u get your neutral off that point you dont just get a neitral from anywhere its earthed???

How is a generator earthed and given neutral?

Thanks for the reply but what i still dont understand is where is the neutral in the generator getting its ground from? At the end of the day neutral is ground

How is a generator earthed and given neutral?

Hi I have a question i cant seem to get an answer too. If you have a portable generator and you plug for instance a fridge or any appliance directly into it, how is the neutral/earthing provided?? I know already that normally you can connect the neutral and earth from an existing...

    Overvoltage/undervoltage protection relays

Hi guys just wondering if anyone of you have any example of overvoltage/undervoltage relays that can be purchase online. I will not be using them in this country off course as the supply is fine. 3 phase ones and single phase Iv had a look so far at these two but i feel like they are cheap...

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

I really apreicate all you guys times honestly it makes much more sense now

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

I know mate i wasnt very clear we were just discussing the topic in college for our test and inspect exams so had a lot of clearing up that needed doing. I was asking why we have maximum Zs for tripping times and how an MCB or RCD would trip any quicker with lower Zs.

    makes sense mate thanks

also why 50volts touch in particular?

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

I see, I think the problem i was having was i was thinking of Zs as some sort of special test when its actually just the line and cpc conductors resitstance combined with the external earth, you mentioned ADS? what is that?

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

Mate i am not selling anything honestly. I am asking this question seriosuly whats so hard to get? i have been told so many times you need low zs readings to achieve the correct disconnection times but i have never been told why and how Zs effects the disconnection times. I dont know if i come...

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

No problem mate thanks for the info anyway. I think there may be a misunderstanding i was asking why Zs has anything to do with how fast a RCD trips in fault conditions

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

THANKS! believe me that was a missing piece mate now it really is coming together its just sometimes at college they dont clarify things like this and it keeps you wondering. Just thinking of it now that piece of information you just said clarifys alot of other things. Thanks alot

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

THANK YOU!! now that has made a switch flick in my head, just a one more thing if you can how does Zs effect the tripping time of a MCB or RCD?

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

honestly no ---- take mate but i like to know how things work so i understand completly what i am doing it makes the job tons easier especially when fault finding

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

but this is the concept i am struggling with you cannot measure the resistance of one piece of wire unless you have long leads either end or unless of course you cross connect and measure at end point?! thats why i am wondering how the meter does it for Ze

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

but how can it record the volt drop when your not at the other end of the cable to measure the volt drop!!! does it magically go around the live and back through the earth?

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

what confuses me is when i am always told Zs = Ze (R1+R2). so does that mean R1 and R2 is measured for each individual circuit by being cross connected then the ze measurement is added on that by the person testing to give Zs? so Zs is basically just R1 and R2 cross connected plus the Ze...

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

I am still quite confused on why loop impedance has anything to do with how quick a protective device would trip? i just dont understand how earth has anything to do with a mcb tripping in short circuit conditions or the RCD tripping in earth fault conditions surely the RCD will see the...

Zs, Ze how the tester works?

but why do you need to put a probe on the earth and the line conductor? does the meter short them out or something?
