    HELP signing off work

ELECSA are good and their technical help especially good. However if you want cheap then STROMA is your future I suggest. You could always move elsewhere at some future point - unless they change the rules. You'll need to provide evidence of good practice with an example installation you've...

Dimmable LED Downlights that will not dim...advice please

Solution: I sorted the problem earlier this morning. I changed the dimmer switch to a Varilight V-Pro version and fitted a halogen lamp in place of one of the LEDs as advised by Varilight for the duration of the test. The halogen lamp showed the dimming function better than the LEDs. No matter...

Dimmable LED Downlights that will not dim...advice please

Yes, phoned 'em. They've given me a couple of things to try. Apparently the default setting is Leading Edge not Trailing edge as I thought, so first thing to try... They also suggested replacing an LED lamp with a Halogen lamp as a test - adds more load...

Dimmable LED Downlights that will not dim...advice please

Now, over the years, I've fitted loads of LED downlights - 100s if not 1000s by now - just like you guys/gals probably. They always work, but this week they don't: Four 5W dimmable LED downlights. Varilight 100W dimmer - minimum load either 0W or 10W depending which spec you read. This dimmer...

When does taking a fuse out protect you..?

Day one at electricians school... Written on the blackboard was "Thou shalt not work live". If you cannot verify a dead circuit then don't work on it....ever!

Is there a time limit for upgrading to 18th edition

I'm recently retired, but still qualified and pick up some of the smaller jobs others won't do. When the 18th edition is inflicted on us, how long before I need to pack in completely because I'm not doing any more f#*****ING exams....

Triple light switch how to wire

These switches are notoriously difficult to wire-up properly - get an electrician to do it - he/she will know what to do!;)

What to do with high n-n continuity readings

To address your original question, Since you didn't carry out pre testing, in my view the last person to touch the installation gets to fix it...that's why we test thoroughly before hand. If such testing doesn't go well you get then exit the job with a clear conscience!!
