If it's a conventional ring just make an educated guess where the mid point is and split it there, and test each leg from the CU. That should rule out half the ring. Split the faulty leg at its mid point, test again. Keep going till you run out of places to split it and you will have hopefully...
Have a look at the Saxby Severus (61211) 3W LED brick light is 230 x 80. Mounted "the wrong way" it will only overhang the post 5mm on each side. They only project 27mm. I have used them for a similar situation.
Sorry, just realised that it's not an EOL, it's in series with the switch, so I guess it's there so the panel doesn't see a short. Good job I don't touch fire alarms. :)
The current range of Fluke 2 pole testers have a continuity range of 0 - 400kOhms. They are worse than useless for continuity checks on domestic wiring. At one end of the scale you could have a perfect connection, at the other you could have 2 (30A, 2.5mm2) radials connected by a 40kOhm...
What about TT fed with overhead lines? We're meant to fit a type 1 and those don't cost £30. I do a a fair few TT installs and I've only had one customer agree to the additional £££££ for the type 1.
TT, in my opinion, isn't well served by the main manufacturers, especially in regard to DP...
I don't work on fire alarms so this may be a daft question, but shouldn't the EOL resistor be at the end of the line? How does the panel detect an o/c on the outgoing wiring connected after that MCP? Only routine call point testing would show a fault, which could result in there being...
It's not very reassuring to know you can get all the questions on 'fundamental principles', 'protection for safety' and 'inspection and testing' wrong and still pass. :(
Think of it as cheap insurance - the additional RCD reduces the risk of electric shock for your tenants, and can also reduce the risk of fire Doepke RCD Video.
The model certificates show the minimum required information. How hard is it to add an extra page detailing the RCD test times of individual RCD protected sockets? That's what I do, and it has been favourably commented on during my Part P assessment yesterday.
Maybe not so simple terms, but everything you ever wanted to know about RCD "nuisance" tripping is here Marc's Technical Pages: Power Quality Symptoms and Solutions - Nuisance Tripping
I have wired one in advance before. Leave enough slack in the wring and Pythagoras reckons it can be passed through the hole in the worktop. Unless you have a circular hob.
I'm not suggesting hiding JBs is good practice - merely stating that at least the plumbers have some proper guidance on what is considered "accessible" in their industry.
Regarding loft spaces, everyone I look in seems to have 18" of fibreglass insulation covering pipes, cables, downlights &...
A carpet hardly makes them inaccessible. As long as you know where the connections are. You've already found them, so note it on the report for the next guy - it could be you in 10 years time.
I've posted about this before, the plumbing regs (WRAS) don't consider things such as ceramic tiles...
Re: Neurtral isolation for TT supply
You could argue that the disruption has been minimised - you are not inconveniencing any of the neighbouring installations. What happens when the service fuse fails, or the overhead lines get taken out by a falling tree, or the single up-front time delayed...
Having "done the leg work", you now know what the circuits are. What's wrong with getting a pen (or a label printer) and marking up the board while you're there- would take only about 10 seconds per circuit? Or are they going to pay you to visit and perform this task at a later date?
Is that why sockets, switches and cooker control units all have built-in cable restraints? Lots of juggling around especially with 6 & 10 mm cables, and quite likely that a "Part P" decorator will pull them free to tuck the wallpaper into the box or paint round them.
Maybe if the JB is in an...
Cheers. Thought they'd sneaked a change in!
And I agree bend it yourself - a ready made 90 degree bend costs almost as much a 3m length of tube.
I've never seen a pre-made "cross-over", presumably because if you wanted to cross a 4" soil pipe, a 40mm waste pipe and a 20mm conduit you'd have...
