    Professional electrician ?

I don't think the forum should be giving the impression, to those that don't know any better, that 2.5mm T&E on a 100A fuse is a good idea. Fair enough, overload protection may be omitted on account of the 13A maximum loading, but under short circuit conditions there's every likely-hood that...

    Current draw?

In the the bright and distant past, people used to get by with a "planet destroying" 100W light in the middle of the room. Then some dim spark invented the CFL. I recently stayed in a small cottage on holiday - 1 bedroom, a combined lounge/kitchen and a bathroom - it had just over 2kW of...

Is this 6mm or 4mm cable?

I know this is a bit radical, but why not measure its resistance rather than it's weight? And while your at it, you can check you've got the full 50 m.

    Can anyone recommend some books?

The 4-Hour Work Week: Escape the 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich: Amazon.co.uk: Timothy Ferriss: Books The title's accurate up to the the semi-colon, in today's climate. Not particularly directed at Bobble, but why do people think that the lack of full time jobs being advertised...

    Junction Boxes

I'm not a qualified chef, but I'm allowed to buy raw chicken, and not let a chef "see it". As far as I'm aware, it is not illegal for DIYers to "do" electrics IF notified to building control, so there's no problem selling them the materials. My wholesaler sells to anyone despite the big...

Zs of Lighting circuit via dimmer

All the ones I've ever used work by firing an SCR to control the cycle time. Dissipating 200 or 300W through a resistor may cause a few problems in a standard back box. As said, loop it out, but note that there's a dimmer.

    Going Limited? Package or Accountant?

Be wary of IR35 - you may be deemed to be an employee if you mainly work for one client. Also, as a limited co. you'll also need employers liability insurance (in addition to any PLI you may have already). As you will be an employee of your own co. you need to run a payroll for yourself, which...

    Car boot pyro crimp tool

Hi, I've only ever used, or seen, the 3 prong indent crimps for pyro, but picked up some pyro bits at a boot sale recently. The crimper produces an almost full crimp as shown, with just four uncrimped parts for the compound to squeeze out. Anyone know if this is an old style imperial crimper...
