    Wago or......

The push fit splice ones that Ideal make have been my goto for a couple of years rather than crimps. Only now have Wago caught up with an option with their through lever connectors....

Side jobs. Cash in the hand

That's how I've always understood it with previous regs too - is that written down somewhere in an actual guidance or note. The online version of AMD 2 actually says: Under Introduction to BS7671:2018 "Installations designed after 31st December 2018 are to comply with BS 7671:2018" Which is...

    Screwfix trunking Woes

Was that the wholesaler he fell out with over prices, or was that another one. David Saverey's visits to CEF are always worth a laugh - he records every one and replays them verbatim! 😉

Tell me about it - I'm trying to get a consumer unit in on a full rewire before then! Though apparently if it is 'contractually signed' as an AMD 1 job then it can still be done to that after that date (according to my NICEIC assessor)

EICR - I completed all remedial works now being told he needs to do a full test again

I'm sure the regulations used to be very unclear about the remedial work, and merely state that the landlord needed written confirmation that all remedial works had been carried out. However, looking at The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 -...

    Wago or......

How do you pronounce Ideal then? If they are going to rip Wago off in every other way they should start saying their name a different way....

    Screwfix trunking Woes

Their LED GU10s are the only ones I use these days - had very few issues with them, even with the older stock, and so much cheaper than alternatives that do have problems cough Philips cough Prysmian T&E is also my preferred cable too, though the moment anyone else gets their hands on it they...

Side jobs. Cash in the hand

There's nothing stopping you from signing a Minor Works certificate for the work, if you are competent - it doesn't ask for qualifications and by providing one you will already be ahead of many 'qualified' people working out there. Notifying under Part P is a different matter, but since outside...

    Screwfix trunking Woes

Just sent Screwfix a complaint email, so we'll see what they say. Seems to be a trend of late of cutting costs on some of their stuff rather than putting the price up - and they are likely squeezing their suppliers for every penny, but it's pointless if the stuff isn't fit for purpose!

    Screwfix trunking Woes

Good to know it's not just me being incompetent then! Maybe trying to cut costs somewhere rather than raise prices - and using less plastic. I have some 100 x 50 I bought from TLC recently and didn't end up using - egatube, apparently an MK/Honeywell company, which seemed very sturdy, but way...

    Screwfix trunking Woes

Spent a good hour tonight fighting crappy 38x25mm trunking - surely it can't all be this badly made?! My fault for getting it from Screwfix so that it came in 2m lengths, I guess. (Tower brand). I've not had issues with their smaller trunking before, but this stuff was a nightmare. Felt fairly...

    Torque Screwdriver Calib

My local CEF calibration day a month or so ago offered calibration of torque screwdrivers for £16.95. Whether it's necessary or not is another question - though I guess at that price it might be worth having the certificate in case it was ever questioned. My main issue is with crap terminals...

Correct way to joint 3 x 30 Amp cables, 30A JB not big enough

I looked into this when I had to extend some cables, and Wago don't seem to do an MF enclosure suitable for the 221-612/3 range, which seems like a gap in the market. The normal (original) Wagobox is fine for the 773-173 as MF, though 3 cables would be right on the limit of what it can take...

    Landing Light Switch gone wrong

Not what I was expecting on the top switch, so definitely sounds like there's some unusual wiring going on there, but glad you've found a way to get it to work. Sounds like all the spare wires are capped off now, so everything is safe. If you ever have an electrician in doing other work, then...

Feed to flat in escape route - best option?

Don't have a roof rack because I need to fit under 2m for underground car parks sometimes. Might see if they can deliver, otherwise need to find places that sell them in 2m lengths, but will definitely investigate it as an option.

Feed to flat in escape route - best option?

Would the linian or Dline clips work with SWA for premature collapse approval though? The only issue then is whether surface SWA is suitable in an escape route - There already is plenty of plastic trunking in the hallway for the EL and smokes, to be fair (not installed by me and been in well...
