I've just done 7909 testing on a site which had a few of these things each feeding a 63amp distro.
I can confirm they are an absolute pain, if you open the flap you can't turn the rotary switch to energise the RCD so a quick test using the test button is completely impossible.
The only way to...
@loz2754 if it’s been licensed, I agree 100%
But we haven’t established that at this point.
Other authorities have their own rules about whether the HMO needs a license or not.
E.g London only needs a license if it’s 5 or more people from 2 households.
If unlicensed, it’s a 3 bed house until 3...
If a 3 bed is vacant it isn’t a HMO.
If rented to a family it isn’t a HMO.
If rented to 2 or more households it becomes one.
Options are
A) walk away believing it’s going to be a HMO soon
B) decide that while it’s vacant it isn’t one and take the chance to make it safer.
(IMHO the regs should...
Thanks. Also noticed my supporter badge has gone. I don't care about seeing it, but does that mean my subscription expired?
It doesn't feel like a year, but wouldn't like to swear to it!
@dan the ads have gone crazy again I'm afraid.
I couldn't see the OP at all, and that is with a subscription to hopefully avoid ads.
Any chance of a look?
I'll do my best to explain why I think your intended approach is flawed:
The regs document BS7671 has only one reg about ring final circuits and honestly it's pretty vague, amounting to use one of these protective devices, and this cable, and make sure you won't exceed the current carrying...
Good morning. Back from holidays, trying to remember where all the tools are and what I should be doing in what order next week….
Funniest thing on my Facebook feed this morning:
Maybe I'm missing something but my reasoning is that there is only one reg about ring final circuits:
An MCB isn't an accessory to BS 1363.
Thank you for giving the context. That would be a much better topic for a thread as about 10 questions immediately come to my mind.
If he ever adds...
Disclaimer: I'm not a Fluke expert by any means.
I think that if it can detect a pd between L and N and not between L & E it won't let you choose a mode involving E.
My follow up questions would be:
-does it let you change modes using F1 without any test leads connected
-what do you get if you...
Ok, 1 post from me and then I’m done here.
My only comment is that bs7671 appendix 15 gives advice about ring final circuits and suggests that various large loads over 2kw should be on a dedicated circuit. While not mentioned by name, immersion heaters draw more than the items that are...
My last rewire had a new kitchen at same time. I could write a seriously long rant but in summary
-Plan and KF said no under cab lighting one side of hob, I put a cable in anyway, customer later wants it and my elation at being prepared falls flat when I find he's managed to drill through the...
Tricky one.
If you don’t mind involving a micro controller you could do something along these lines:
https://randomnerdtutorials.com/rf-433mhz-transmitter-receiver-module-with-arduino/
And use the Arduino to control relays to activate the indicators.
You would need a DC power source at each...
Yes they turn themselves off every week for an hour and every year for 3 hours.
They show a green LED if they passed the last test, and a flashing red led if they failed the last test.
Did you play the black knight in Monty Python and the holy grail?
Have a beer, stick some music on and think of something else to worry about. The immersion heater won’t work anyway by the time someone wants it to.
I believe it says that accessories to bs1363 can be connected to a ring final circuit that can contain fused or unfused spurs as long as the current in any part of circuit is unlikely to exceed 20amps for long periods.
Wild paraphrasing from memory as I’m on the beach. This thread is very strange.
An excellent point. I’ve modified some to be 12v in a garden that it wasn’t practical to rewire - there are ES and GU10 adaptors to accept GU5.3 lamps. You just have to watch volt drop with 12v on longer runs.
