    Air fryer hot plug

So the plug / flex gets hot in three different sockets (near each other?) And the Kettle plug gets hot in this socket too when you boil a kettle. It's getting a bit speculative and unlikely but if it were a broken ring and a loose connection nearby it could affect more than one socket. @GGemma...

What is it called IR testing?

Most MFTs state compliance with IEC 61010-2-034 which I believe stipulates a 5 second delay to all IR tests. (this appears to be one of the regular complaints about the new Megger X1) I don’t know if this is voluntary compliance or mandatory, I’d assumed it was required but in order to sell it...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

It's just common sense though isn't it. Since I've had an assistant (fairly recent thing) I've been ultra-aware of my responsibility to make sure he gets home at end of day. We recently had a fault find and CU change job that was an hour's drive into the middle of nowhere with zero phone...

What is it called IR testing?

Yes, for a while testers have been obliged to do this. For some fun, you should try an old Robin KTS1620 (same as Kewtech KT62) It's gloriously (and usefully) lethal! Touch test and instant 250/500v/1000v to the probes, and the Test button can be locked on..... I keep one in the van entirely...

    Neutral Pole

I don't know if this helps or confuses more, but sometimes seeing it visually can help. If you consider a 5 amp load on each phase, with a scale of 1 amp = 10mm, and the phases 120 degrees apart you get a vector graph like this: If you arrange the vectors after each other in phase sequence...

    UK First time NAPIT assessment

Before my first assessment, the assessor phoned me and we talked it all through. That wasn't all that recently though. I wouldn't worry about doing a job, doing the certificate, then showing it an assessor. I forget the exact details but the notification to LABC has a certain amount of leeway...

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

@AlexanderSmi123 are you able to describe the work he did beyond the work that you requested? I'm wondering if any of it is notifiable to LABC under part P of building regs.

    Neutral Pole

Yes If all 3 phases are carrying 63amps, and connected in a star configuration, N current is zero. Otherwise if the 3 phases are not balanced the N current is square root of ( L1^2 + L2^2 + L3^2 - L1L2 - L1L3 - L2L3) You would need to describe your calculations to get to 20 Kw

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

I agree regarding the actual bottom line, but they might raise an eyebrow at doing work that wasn't requested. I know of a case where Napit did.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Ok, well it's in the electricians interests to resolve this amiably them. If you can't reach agreement you can make a complaint to NICEIC. If you have written scope of works and an invoice with considerably more works on it then it sounds pretty clear cut.

Unreasonably high invoice bill from an electrician

Is the electrician in a competent person scheme like Napit or NICEIC? I'd send the electrician an email acknowledging receipt of invoice, and saying that you'd like to discuss the labour charges as you've been advised that it's typically well under a days work, and you didn't request other work...

    TT sub mains and discrimination..

With disclaimer I don't have the regs book here my memory is: TT Fault protection - distribution circuit, 1 second max disconnection time. So should be met by S-type RCD (500ms max operating time I think) Provided Ze and CPC total less than 500 ohms (which I'd hope is the case!) you will likely...

    TT sub mains and discrimination..

So boiling this down, your question is whether the 100ma RCD at the house is adequate fault protection for the distribution circuit to the garage?

    Ali-express DY4100 Digital Earth Tester

All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight. Or did you want a serious answer about RE tests?!
