    Is the laptop worth buying?

Been using desktops and laptops for over 30 years, used to build my own in the good old days, now i buy custom made ones now. I have a very short fuse when it comes to slow computers, what does not appear to have changed is the pathetic amount of RAM installed which just about runs on day one...

    3 Phase requirements

Nice machines ! - One of my clients runs around 30 -40 machines and i have to deal with this question over and over again. In simple terms, impossible to answer just based on KVA off rating plate. Obviously the more power you ask for from the elec supplier, the greater the cost to both the...

    Access control and power failures

With no key of course you are locked out for more than just a power issue, but any issue with the strike plate solenoid, wiring and control box. Unless you have an alternative access method (backdoor) which can be opened passively with a key i would not do it. Anyway, the access control box may...

Wiring an open fronted car barn

TBH, even if you had put doors on, the ones i have wired i have used surface PVC conduit and "outdoor" types sockets, light switch and IP rated batten light fittings, JCC and powerled do a good range for this application. The location of the CU is important to avoid wind blown rain. You can...

    Any tips on wiring 3x 2.5mm cpc's into a 13a socket?

Ha, i know what you mean...... Some sockets have a different type of earth connection that is a clamp type rather than a screw which just bites into the wire which just conspires to push the wire out. Cannot remember which types are best but its obvious when you look ... see if you can find a...

What's the point of DIN rail terminal blocks?

There are many reasons why but, in general they are used often in Panels Boards that are designed , built and tested off-site. When on-site the electrician can then gland and terminate all remote cables to the relevant terminal block. This saves the electrician pulling the panel board apart to...

    UK AC At Home Anyone?

Done loads of different mountings over the years, it really depends on the overall environment. For commercially, ideally a purpose built "farm environment" where the ground is concrete, there is no vegetation within a mile, lol, you can run all containment in nice neat runs. A/C units mounted...

    UK AC At Home Anyone?

To clean the heat exchanger at the back of the outdoor unit you need room away from the wall to get your hand in with a brush, otherwise it will get blocked being that low down. The lowest i mount them is around 6 inches off the floor as the fan will just suck crap off the floor and draw it into...

An alternative for condensate run, if its on an internal wall you can run the pipe work on the other side of the wall and box in. This is how i have it as on the other side of the wall is just a walk in wardrobe so i have hidden all the pipework in the wardrobe. Condensate pumps vary in design...

Fujitsu have a small form factor if you are trying to squeeze it above a door or window. https://www.fujitsu-general.com/uk/products/split/wall/index.html If you have an account at Wolseley, you can get them from there. PV installation - dedicated circuit, or from sub main board? MCS query

Current issue is 4 and after November its issue 5. I do see many commercial installations done by a number of companies (as i do the EICRs) and roughly 50% go to the main DB with the rest hooking into a sub board off the main DB. Not seen anything in BS7671 that would alarm me of such "problems"...

PV installation - dedicated circuit, or from sub main board? MCS query

There are many more installation types where issues would arise, BTW can you screenshot the document you are referring to as my copy of MIS 3002 does not say that (as far as i can read :)

PV installation - dedicated circuit, or from sub main board? MCS query

There are several ways to connect solar into an existing installation. I have used most of them, lol Before i design the best approach, the size of the solar output, distance from the main house loads and any other relevant factors come into play. A new submain right back to the cutout is just...
